Scheduled Muster Drill

Our roll call is trying to figure out a time for our get together. The ship sails at 8 pm on day 1. We would like to get together at 5:30 but we are concerned it might conflict with the muster drill.

Has anyone sailed O recently with an 8 pm departure on day 1? If so, when was the muster drill?

This is all likely changing on all cruise lines in the very near future...because of the Costa Concordia disaster.

They are talking about requiring ALL ships to hold the muster drill PRIOR to sailing...The old rule was "within 24 hours"...

That said, IIRC, our muster drill on Marina in August was at 5:00 pm and the ship sailed at 6:00 pm...

I am guessing that, with the new initiative, all muster drills will likely be held about one hour before departure...You want to make sure most passengers have boarded, so you can't do it too early...and you want to get it done with before "sailaway" since most passengers seem to want to enjoy sailaway somewhere on an open deck or in a view lounge, drink in hand...

Sailing at 8:00, of course, poses another problem...

The dining room probably starts serving dinner at around 6:00...and you can't interrupt a dining room full of people between appetizers and entrees!

I am guessing they may hold it just before the dining room opens...

The way around this is to schedule it at "5:30 pm OR immediately following the muster drill"...

They always seem to have them at 5:15 or 5:30pm no matter what time sailaway is

One exception was on Marina last year it was held the next morning but as already noted that will now change

Just say after muster drill meet @ XXX place

We have done that on most of the cruises
