To calculate average weight gain...

1. Weight at the port

2. Add number of nights at sea

3. Subtract number of decks below the buffet (but only if you use the stairs)

4. Multiply by 1.005 number of midnight buffets visited

5. Subtract number of visits to the exercise room

6. Add .15 pound for each extra dessert

7. Subtract 2 ounces for each lap around the running track

8. Add .5 pound if not drinking unsweetened iced tea

9. Subtract number of walking tours completed on shore excursions

10. Forget the above, enjoy your cruise and begin your "next" diet on arrival home

STAIRS!STAIRS!STAIRS!

I never used the elevator on the Conquest and think I probably lost a few lbs because of all the stairs. We were on 7th floor/deck...It was two floors up to the lido deck and all the fun...two floors down to the Casino and bars...four floors down to the dining room and 7 floors down to the gangway in Ports. (Should have seen me taking on 7 flights of stairs after a couple yards of Strawberry Daiquiri at Carlos N Charlies in Cozumel!)

I ate what I wanted including two desserts some nights at dinner...and drank a lot for me!

Wish I had all those stairs to walk now...

I've never gained more than 3 lbs on a cruise, but DH gained 9 on the last one. I walk or jog early every morning so that I can watch the sun come up and I go to the gym most days. I have dessert most meals, so I was pretty happy to only gain that much. I think that DH gains more because he drinks and I don't.

Don't ask me how this happens, but I use the elevator to go one floor even if it means waiting a couple of minutes, eat like a pig, and loose weight!

I hear you! If I ate like a pig, I'd have a lot of loose weight too!

:p Yup...hubby and I both lost weight on our last cruise to the Caribbean! Hopefully it goes that way this year! I've lost 115 lbs in the past 14 months and plan to hit the gym at least on NON excursion days! But if I dont...its all good!

I cruised in February too and didnt gain either....was surprised with all the alcohol we consumed! Of course there was ALOT of dancing going on too!

Yeah! THAT'S the ticket!

I had lost 30 pounds prior to our cruise. I gained 10 lbs. on that cruise. This time around I am actively dieting and exercising and I don't want to gain anything on our upcoming cruise. I am an early bird (even on weekends and vacations), so I want to take advantage of walking around the deck in the morning like I hear others speaking of. I don't know if I want to do the gym like at home because some part of me still wants to seem like I am on vacation. My problem the last cruise was all of the calzones from the 24 hour pizzaria!

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, with all the food I can see why but on the flip side....I have lost almost 120 pounds in the last 14 months....I ate everything I wanted but we were very active also. Came home to have lost 1 pound and my hubby stayed the same which is exactly what happened to us 2 years ago.

YES, I had desert every night and YES I ate at midnight most nights too ahaha even after the late seating!

Oh yeah...this is Jbags58...my hubby is Chibearssuperfan. Sorry honey!

So my advice is..>BE ACTIVE and KEEP MOVIN! It will counter act the eating.

and yes, I did hit the gym a few days..took a spinning class, a pilates class and ran one day...but thats it! I enjoyed the classes but they are an extra fee of $10 and worth it in my opinion. GOOD luck to all!

If you gain weight rapidly you lose it rapidly. It's just like when you lose weight slowly (which sucks when you're only trying to lose a few pounds to tone up and you just want it to come off!). It takes longer to gain it back and KEEP it back. Cruise is a lot of water weight (as Heidi Ho pointed out). If you gain weight on a cruise, simply by going back to your pre-cruise routine you'll lose weight. (I'm a little obsessive in the weight area)

I only gained 2 on my first cruise, 3 on my second, and none last cruise. I lost everything quickly after though so I wouldn't stress too much about a couple pounds on vaca - you'll shed it quickly :)
