mikayla73 Posted March 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2012 Hi! We are going on our first AK cruise this summer and have booked the La Quinta. We are coming in a couple days early and plan on getting a car at SEATAC for those couple days. We are planning on returning the car the evening before we cruise so we don't have to mess with it the morning of the cruise. How is the public transportation from SEATAC to back to this area? We'd prefer not to have to taxi back and it will just be my husband and myself.
mapleleaves Posted March 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2012 You could ride the Central Link Light Rail from SeaTac back to Seattle. $2.75 about 40 minutes. The last stop is Westlake Center at 4th and Pine. http://www.soundtransit.org/Schedules/Central-Link-light-rail.xml You can walk to your hotel from Westlake, 7-8 blocks, or downtown buses are free if you want to hop on a bus. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/tops/bus/area_maps/m_seattle-rfa.html Ask your rental company if you could return the car downtown instead of the airport, unless your drive has you near SeaTac anyway. Dan G Posted March 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2012 unless you absolutely need the car its really more of a hassle than a help. LaQuinta isn't as close to main attractions as other hotels but its manageable.
Casagordita Posted March 4, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 4, 2012 unless you absolutely need the car its really more of a hassle than a help. LaQuinta isn't as close to main attractions as other hotels but its manageable. It depends on where you want to go, really. It's likely to be more trouble and expense than it's worth for most people to have a car around the central Seattle sights--Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, the waterfront, The Space Needle and Seattle Center, etc. Parking is scarce there, and expensive, and transit will get you around pretty easily. Cabs won't be that expensive within that general area. Other places--the Boeing Factory tour in Everett, the Museum of Flight, Snoqualmie Falls, wine tasting in Woodinville, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Mount Rainier--are accessible by public transportation or an organized tour, but not without some trouble and expense. A car could be downright handy in getting there.
