jennywren46 Posted March 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2012 We are going to Alicante in May and I was wondering if anyone knows where the elevator is to reach the castle. Ive looked at a few maps and I cant find out exactly where it is, the directions Ive found seem very vague. Were both in our 60s and whilst we are fit I really dont think were up to walking up the hill. Thanks for any help you can give me.
kate52 Posted March 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2012 Hi- the lift up to the castle is opposite the beach (the end of the beach nearest to town and harbour) There is quite a busy road in front of it, and you walk through a long tunnel before you actually get to the lift. If you look on Google earth it looks like there is a flyover walkway round about where the tunnel entrance is. We walked to it on the opposite side of the road (not the promenade side) and it didn't take long from the esplanade. Hope this helps, kate

Rare Hlitner Posted March 5, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Alicante is a good port for folks that love to take long walks. You can walk from the pier along the water where there is a nice park (with wide bike paths and walkways) until you get over to the other side of town where you will find the elevator. As the other poster mentioned, this elevator is inside the mountain and you walk through a long tunnel to get to the elevator. After you explore the top of the mountain you will have plenty of time to walk back via the downtown area where you can explore the shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. Hank
English_in_Spain Posted March 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Hi. I live in Alicante This map might help you. I have marked the point where the shuttle bus will drop you and also where you will find the elevator to go up to the castle. You can also see some other notes I have posted on Alicante here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=32514781&postcount=

kate52 Posted March 5, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2012 If you walk down from the castle, there is a very attractive "old town" area on the hillside next to the castle- stepped streets, little white houses, lots of flowers and tiles. And a few nice specialist shops and tapas bars near the cathedral. kate
