Noro on Voyager of the Seas..?

Recommended Posts

I have been reading a lot in recent weeks about Norovirus on several ships, especially Voyager of the Seas. We sail the 17th and I was just wondering if after the sterile clean they did if anyone else has been infected?

I have already taken some precautions such as buying several bottles of hand santizer, imodium, pepto and some other medicines for stomach flu like symptoms. I know these things probably won't help that much if we're infected but I want to do as much as I can.

I have 12 other members of my family going. I am worried about all of us and want us to have a good time and not be miserable with this sickness. My biggest worry though is my grandmother. She is 70 and semi handicapped. She will be in a wheelchair for the most part. She has had some recent health issues and we are all so happy she is finally back to her old self after what seemed like some incidents that she wouldn't ever recover from. I have bought her her own small hand sanatizer to carry around and have instructed her to use it constantly, especially since she will be in the casino most of the time. I really can't stand to see her get sick.

If one of us does get sick can we go to the infirmary and get medicine and/or a shot? How soon does it work? Is this free? And do we get some sort of compensation since we did contract the illness from them?

Does anyone have any info?

I cannot answer all your questions, but I will tell you that most people do know what RC and probably every other cruise line does to prevent sick ness. For example, on our last cruse after talking to our waiter, he said he had to work late the final evening, and they thoroughly disinfect virtually every thing in the MDR, from railing to chairs, to salt and pepper shakers etc. But even that, will not stop the noro completely. too many variables, from the cruisers, ports of call visits etc. it is just one of the nasty things that can happen anywhere, but it is even worse when it happens on vacation.

You don't contract an illness from the cruise line, you get it from infected passengers who boarded with the illness! Hardly the cruise line's fault. In any case, we were just on Voyager and disembarked this past Saturday....no issues whatsoever. Your grandmother can't be too worried if she's going to spend most of her time in a smoke filled casino! LOL. By the way, the casino does NOT open the first night, because it takes 8-9 hours to sail down the Mississippi until you get to the gulf. The casino cannot open in U.S. waters. Also, it closes at 7pm on the last night, before entering the river again for the 8-9 hour trip back to New Orleans.

You will get no compensation if you get noro...you may be quarantined in you cabin! This virus is everywhere....schools are rampant with it, as are nursing homes, hospitals...and there have even been hotels that have quarantined and shut their doors because of this virus. It's NOT a cruise ship thing...it's people thing!

Handwashing is the best way to avoid it....the sanitizer stuff doesn't really do the job!

Apologies in advance - not answering your norovirus question.

We will be on Voyager on the 17th as well. We're also from Arkansas and this is our first cruise, just the hubby and me !!! Are you signed up for the Meet & Mingle? There are already a LOT of folks from Arkansas on the list. It will be fun to meet other "home folks" :) We are also on Deck 8 !!

We were on the 2/18 Mardi Gras cruise on Voyager. When we disembarked on 2/25, we heard some discussion among the port staff that there was only 1 sick person coming off the ship. No confirmation it was Noro, and there was absolutely no talk aboard of any Noro cases during the cruise. Hope this helps!

Just got off the ship on Saturday and there was no noro. There are hand sanitizer pumps at all restaurants. I brought a few mini bottles of hand sanitizer as well. I washed my hands like crazy after each visit to the casino too, which can be quite dirty.
