Luggage Question in Vancouver

We will arrive in Vancouver the day before our cruise.

We want to wander a bit in Gastown before boarding the ship.

 

Can we drop off our bags before boarding the ship? How early? Or should we try to leave them at the hotel? If it matters, we will be staying at Delta Vancouver Suites.

Either option will work, the porters at Canada Place start accepting luggage at between 0930 and 1000. However, given your hotel's location in relation to Gastown and Canada Place I would be more inclined to leave my luggage with the bell desk, go on my walk and pick up my luggage on the way back to Canada Place.

What if you asked for a late checkout and left your luggage in your room? One possibility. The other is to ask the hotel to store your luggage in their lock up room. That is probably the easier of your choices.
