Smoking in Cigar Bar - Can't do it. Huh????

Sorry to bring back this old post but I was on the Freedom in April and I smoked in the Cigar bar as did some others....they even had a Cigar company sponsored event.

I think the confusion may be that the "cigar bar" was moved from deck 4 to deck 5.

The LARGE old Cigar Bar on deck 4 is now nonsmoking .

The Cigar Bar on deck 5 is the small jazz lounge across from the piano bar.

This is where we smoked, the Habana Cigar bar on 4. They had portable air cleaners running and even a staff member came over to talk to me and mentioned how awful the cigar I was smoking smelled but never said anything about no smoking.

The former cigar bar on the Freedom is no longer called a cigar bar. On deck plans, it is called "The Habana Bar".

According to Carnival's policy, in effect for 2 years now, cigar smoking is permitted only in certain areas on deck and, on 13 ships, including Freedom, in the jazz clubs.

As on many other Carnival ships, the problem with the "cigar bar" was mostly that it encompassed the entire interior width of the ship and the line going into dinner in the aft restaurant usually backed up into it. It also was in the way of the most direct route from dinner to the main lounge. It would have been much less of a problem if they had been able to enclose the port half and move the computer area, allowing access to and from dinner on deck 4 without passing through the "cigar bar".

At least they still allow them inside in the jazz club. I enjoy an occasional cigar while sipping a drink in the evening.

When I was on Majesty of the Seas a couple of months ago, they sold cigars in one of the lounges that permitted smoking. I paid for the overpriced cigar and proceeded to light it. They came over and told me that cigar smoking was not allowed inside, only cigarettes.

Well.........you can buy condoms in the shops on the Promenade but you can't have sex there either.......;)

I really enjoyed the cigar bars on the ships, but they are obsolete it seems. I just don't think smoking a cigar outside is the same as in the cigar lounge. I know that you can smoke them in the jazz clubs but as strange as this sounds...I don't like going in there because it smells like cigarette smoke.

I think the thing about the cigars is that someone sits and smokes one for a while and then leaves, it doesn't add too much smoke to the air, while the cigarette smokers can smoke them one right after the other, I am sure they are out there but I have never seen a chain cigar smoker. You seem to get a lot more cigarette smoke in there with people running in and out to smoke than the occasional cigar smoker that usually sits and has one and leaves...

I finally managed to quit smoking last fall but my dh still smokes so spent some time with him in the jazz club on our last cruise. NO ventilation in there, at least on the Liberty. The old cigar lounge had far better ventilation. You also run into the issue of it now being the only indoor smoking lounge on the ship so it confines the smokers to a smaller area. It's REALLY cloudy in there and the smell spills out onto the promenade and into the comedy club which just aggravates the non-smokers.

It would have made much more sense (to me at least!) to keep the cigar bar smoking since it's on a whole separate deck and had better ventilation and figure out a way to move the internet café or provide another entrance. Keeps the non-smokers' away from the smell on the promenade and the smokers in a better suited room for it.

On the Freedom you cannot smoke in the Havana Cigar Bar but you can smoke cigars in the Swingtime Lounge, which is on deck 5 in the back of the boat just before the International Lounge. You can also smoke them on open decks on the starboard side of the ship.

I feel your pain. It's like not allowing any food in a place called the Main Dining Room. Just change the friggin name. It's not a cigar bar anymore.

Go to the Swingtime Lounge, or have them on your balcony (if you have one) or have them on the starboard side of the outside deck. That's all we have now.

Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar.

Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

* All Spa Suites and Staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment. Spa suites and staterooms are on the following ships only: Carnival Splendor, Carnival Dream, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Sunshine.

* Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 USD cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas.

Well l'm really excited b/c my hubby just booked a cruise on the BBreeze! Anybody know where you have to go to enjoy a cigar on that one?

Was on the Breeze again this past may. There we 2 places I went enjoy a few cigars. One was on Deck5/The Lanai right outside the doors from the Ocean Plaza...right past the Ocean Plaza bar on the same side as the Red Frog Pub...aka as Portside. Also on the portside on Deck11 above the Lido pool/deck there's another spot to have a cigar. I believe both of these are the outdoor smoking sections for the Breeze.

I had the same thing happen on the Glory a few years back. I thought the lady was kidding at first. With the massive radioactive cigarrette cloud hanging at eye level how can they say cigars are a problem?

I had basically the same thing happen on the Pride in 2011. Got done playing, sat down in the smoking section of the casino around the bar, fired up a stick...got this throat slashing signal from a dealer and bartender, can't smoke that thing here...I'm like seriously, the smoke cloud over the bar is like permanent and I and can't enjoy a ceegar???

I think that was the same year they made those changes to the cigar bars...Pride didn't have a separate cigar bar, rather a smoking section in the sports bar..right next to the open area into the smoking section of the casino...so they move the cigar smoking from the sports bar, next door into the much larger, much less used jazz club.....didn't make sense to me..but oh well.

Makes you wonder why the restrictions on e-cigarettes since they expel no smoke.

I don't believe Deck 5 is a designated smoking area, for any type of tobacco product (cigarettes or cigars). Check your Fun Times and see if it's listed.
