wpmomof3 Posted March 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2012 Hi, We've been to Barbados before by ourselves and loved it. Now we are returning with family, the grandparents, and our younger ones (ages 3-8). We would like to take them to visit the sights we once saw when we rented a two seater moped and explored the island. Hope to hit the north coast with the animal flower anemone cave, the beach (Rockley perhaps?) lunch there or somewhere else, and then possibly hit the distillery if there is time. There are 7 of us, so we need a van or large SUV. Should we just rent a car ourselves or is there someone reputable we can hire to chauffeur us around for the day? How much would that cost? Cruise leaves at 5pm so figure we start the day around 10 and continue to 4pm. Ideas?:D
snowbirds2 Posted March 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2012 I think there are a lot more advantages to having a knowledgeable driver to make the most of your day. You won't have to worry about the afternoon traffic tie ups in Bridgetown or getting back to the ship on time and they would be able to suggest other places en route you might enjoy. Plus you get to relax and enjoy the scenery as you go. I've seen Andrews Transportation and Johnson Tours mentioned on these boards both of whom do customized tours with a driver for the day. Guess it depends on your budget too. If there isn't a big difference between renting (factoring the expensive gas /insurance etc) and a custom tour I'd go private tour. Ideas?:D We've been to Barbados several times and we've used the services of Cameron Reid twice now to tour the island and we've been more than satisfied. Once we had one of his drivers and the second time we had Cameron himself. Check out his website for ideas or just tell him what you want to see and he'll give you a quote. He does have vans so can accommodate your family. http://www.cameronbarbadostours.com/index.html Hope this helps.
Carol28 Posted March 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2012 Just returned from the Serenade of the Seas cruise which was excellent. We taxied in most of the ports. In Barbados we found a guide who loves his job and his island and gave us a great tour. If you are interested - AndreTaxi101@hotmail.com. We will be going back. There is a particular place, Hole Town, where we ate lunch. The restaurant is Surfside. We had flying fish which Andre suggested. The town has a funky shopping area where we will visit next time and also upscale shops like Michael Kors and Lauren. Be sure to tell him how many people you have to accommodate all of you.
