Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise have pick up drop offs in downtown long beach. You can take a free city bus to get there. Hertz and Enterprise are closed on Sundays though and all close at about 2pm Saturday.

I asked this question earlier on this board. In the end I decided it was easier to get a pick up at Long beach Airport. Most car hire firms in long beach are closed on Sundays. I got a pick up at long beach and drop off at LAX.
