elgato2 Posted March 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2012 It's been a couple of years since we've cruised..and have never concerned ourselves w/internet access before, but DH is now joined at the hip to his pad and was thinking he may want to be able to use it on Sea Days...What is the cost and how S-L-O-W is it? bzpilot Posted March 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2012 Typically EXTREMELY slow and expensive. You have three options for internet access: Onshore - Save your money and wait till you get to a port where you can pick up free or much cheaper Wi-Fi access onshore. Onboard Wi-Fi - Go to the Internet Café onboard or use your own wireless device (laptop, iPhone, smart phone, etc.) for Wi-Fi access. Pricing is identical, whether you are using the Internet Café terminals or your own wireless device. Activation fee - a one-time $3.95 charge applies to each user on their first login only. Pricing - 480 minutes for $159 240 minutes for $89 120 minutes for $59 45 minutes for $29 Pay As You Go: $0.75/minute Printing - available in the Internet Café at $0.50/page [*]Onboard Cellular - Use your own device over the Cellular At Sea onboard cellular network. You will be charged by your carrier for International Data Rates. These onboard cellular rates can cost even more than the Wi-Fi rates above. For example, onboard all Carnival ships AT&T currently (January 2012) charges an International Data Rate of $.0195/kb - that comes to almost $20/MB. Sending that one nice picture to Grandma could cost you $100! Use onboard cellular at your own monetary risk! The Onboard Wi-FI pricing above may not seem too bad until you figure in sending or receiving just one email can take 10 minutes!
