Need advice on Hawaii shore excursions. Which ones to take and those to avoid. Also, is it easier to rent cars in port and simply go on your own.

Car rentals are easy and convenient on all of the islands. My favorite shore excursion was the Captain Zodiac Snorkeling at Kona and we enjoyed the helicopter tour at Hilo. My husband played golf at Kauai Lagoons through the ship and was really impressed with the course and the ship's golf program.
