edmusic Posted March 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2012 Looking for a less expensive alternative to the ship's excursion for some 1/2 day Salmon fishing in Sitka this coming June. HAL wants $250 per person and I've gotta believe that there is a better deal out there than this. Any recommendations from previous experiences? Thanks in advance for your help. SirTomster Posted April 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2012 Here might be some useful information: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60966-Activities-Sitka_Alaska.html I am looking as well as our group may do some fishing in Sitka or Ketchikan. I am leaning towards Ketchikan as they are inside passage so the ocean should be calmer.
mapleleaves Posted April 2, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2012 Check Sitka's web site for vendors: http://www.sitka.org/ Also, visit the Alaska forum on tripadvisor then select Sitka. There should be a few threads on fishing. My BIL fishes in Sitka but stays at an all inclusive resort for a few days .... with great success! However, at that time of the year, we only caught Pink Salmon. While good to eat, it is not as prized for eating as the other species like King and Coho. Plus, on our cruise, we only get about 5 hours in Ketchikan and by going fishing, we may not have any other time to see the town. I'm leaning heavily towards Sitka.
