elecktra35 Posted March 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2012 Hello, we will be on the summit April 7th... Just wondering if we are allowed to get on and off the ship on Saturday(embarkation day) to check out the sites? If so, does anyone know if there is shopping near by or where it is suggested to go to shop and kill some time before the ship leaves? Thank you
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2012 Nothing within walking distance -- you'll be taking a cab. What kind of shopping? San Juan has a big mall, the historic old part of the city, and other options.
isabela Posted March 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2012 I recommend you to do the shopping and walking around before boarding. You can do a later boarding, around 2PM. No lines to board. The Pan Am pier is like a 5-10 minutes in car (taxi) and they will charge around $20-25, not a walking distance,. If you want to walk it will take like 45 minutes to get to the Old San Juan and is not safe to do that. Is safe when you are in the tourist area, but not for walking alone. We did that (shopping before boarding) in November and it worked perfect. Getting there at 12 make no difference than 2, except the long lines. Go and enjoy the Old San Juan early and then go to the ship. Is worthed. This is MHO. Blessed trip

Traveling Library Posted March 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2012 We took a taxi to the pier and dropped off our luggage but didn't check-in. Took another cab to Old San Juan. Walked around, saw the forts, etc. and then cabbed it back to the pier and checked in. There isn't anything really near the pier. Taxi prices are regulated and posted and there are many taxis.
