Card check Posted April 19, 2012 Author #104 Share Posted April 19, 2012 MAIN RESTAURANT Malossol Caviar, Smoked Eel and Potato Parfait Seared Tuan Carpaccio Seared Escalope of Foie Gras Consomme of Oxtail Butternut Squash Soup Boston Bibb Lettuce and Grilled Asparagus Hearts of Iceberg MAIN COURSE: Pan Fried Dover Sole Butter Poached Lobster Tail Roast Rack of Lamb Provencale Fillet of Beef Wellington Porcini Stuffed Rigatoni Last night the colonade was closed to the general passengers- they had a big shindig for the "world travelers", those on since the beginning of the cruise in January. They had a prefunction party in the Grand Salon and then a private dinner in the Colonade. They had Lobster and a lovely beef dish (which I can't spell off the top of my head) we had a fantastic lunch for 8 in the dining room for 8- Suzie and Richard, Terry, Stan, Dr. George and son from Australia, mom and me. We requested Indian food, and they made the best butter chicken I have ever had. Also lamb curry, samosas, naan, rice and mango chutney. I had colored pictures of the "Taj" placed on each plate and the flag from India on the table. Everyone loved it and we had the best time. Dessert was FINALLY these chocolate squares we have been trying to get again since the 2nd or 3rd night. Nobody could figure out what we were asking for, but finally the pastry chef came through. Mom and I had a simple dinner by ourselves, but we sat between 2 hilarious guys-one was from Germany, and Natalie and Toby on our other side. We got a kick out of the 2 guys who wanted their shots of vodka in "small cups" to be chilled in "whiskey pots" as a sort of ice bucket. It was hilarious. Anyway, stopped by the casino, but nobody there, so to bed early, rocked to sleep by the enormous waves all night long. Card check Posted April 19, 2012 Author #108 Share Posted April 19, 2012 The show tonight was Arturo Sandoval, a grammy award winning jazz musician. He was mentored by Dizzy Gillespie and played with Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Bill Conti, Stan Getz, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra and many more. He is quite versatile, playing trumpet, piano and singing. It was an amazing show. I saw Francesca there, enjoying the show with her buddies. Also, had my 2nd tango lesson today and am slowly catching on. /when I dance with Alex, I don't look half bad. But when I'm with one of the regular passengers, we don't look so good. Dinner tonight was good- i had the beef wellington. Also the Chocolate souffle for dessert.Mom and I are off to bed now!!! More tomorrow from Corfu. Card check Posted April 20, 2012 Author #114 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Tonight we had a fantastic dinner, hosted by our friends Pat, Stanley and Troy. They picked a special menu of mussels, caesar salad, Fillets wrapped in bacon, asparagus, lobster, assorted cheeses and creme brulee. They had a gift bag with a plate from Corfu and a second gift of a beautiful hand towel with an olive design and Corfu embroidered on it. They also had the menu printed out and rolled up like they do with the Chef's dinner. It was fabulous. Had a great group of friends and the conversation was continuous. The best dinner so far. Then to the casino, where I quickly lost my $200 limit. Max and Ed were both playing and we were having fun so I played my last $35.00 15/10/10 blind on 3 card poker. I was pleasantly surprised to see a straight flush, winning $660!!!!! We ended up leaving with $850!!! What a profitable night. Dr. Janey

Card check Posted April 21, 2012 Author #118 Share Posted April 21, 2012 Today was a little chilly outside, even rained early in the morning. We had to break out the clothes we wore on the plane from Oakland. It was fairly quiet throughout the ship, with most people at least starting to pack. Several of the "world Cruisers" were crying and hugging each other, knowing the world they've known for the last 3 months would soon be a memory. Back to the "real world" was just starting to sink in. We packed almost everything, leaving out just what we planned to wear in Venice and on the plane. Mom went to bridge and I "ran errands", which consisted of sending thank you cards to Miss Pat and Stan, for hosting such a fabulous dinner last night, procuring the last 2 bottles of Banfi Chianti (gave one to stan and Troy as a thank you gift), giving outfits from Egypt to Jessica (who always fixed us up with several bottles of "drinks to go" at every port, picked up passports, checked the invitation that we sent out last night for our Martini Classics cocktail party scheduled for Saturday at 6PM, and requested 10 extra invitations to pass out in person (they would only allow me to send out 50, so I delivered additional invites in person), and met with food and beverage manager to confirm our menu for tonight's party. The invitations turned out really cute with 2 martini glasses on each side Martini Party We would be delighted to meet you at 6:00 P.M. in The Observation Lounge on Deck 10 Saturday, 21st of april 2012 Come and enjoy Classic Martinis as we sail away......... Card check Posted April 21, 2012 Author #119 Share Posted April 21, 2012 We went to the Galley Lunch (wouldn't miss it!!!) which was amazing, as always. One thing EVERYONE agreed about this cruise was that the food and the service were both outstanding. The crew all seems happy and they all aim to please. The captain is so upbeat and positive- AND WE ALL LOVE THE CRUISE DIRECTOR, JOHN. There have been a few "difficult" passengers, but luckily they have kept a low profile and are otherwise ignored by all. Then the Blackjack Tournament (I didn't even qualify!) Did line dancing with Michelle, went to the tea ( we love the egg salad sandwiches) then drank champagne until the party at 6:00.The party was a hug success, with over 50 people, as well as FRANCESCA, the Captain, and most of the entertainment dept. Jamie played Frank Sinatra tunes and we attempted a group photo around the piano, though it was hard to get everyone together for longer than a few seconds. I collected email addresses and volunteered to make sure everyone will receive a copy by email eventually. Ready for bed now- clocks back one hr which helps!!! Goodnight for now Dr. janey

Card check Posted April 22, 2012 Author #121 Share Posted April 22, 2012 Sadly, our cruise is coming to an end. The last night is always the worst- packing, weighing suitcases, exchanging email addresses, more packing... Today we took the free water shuttle to San Marco Square and wandered through Venice to The Hard Rock Cafe (had 2 Bellinis each), past the Rialto Bridge to a restaurant that had been recommended to us. Unfortunately, it had closed at 2PM and didn't open until 7PM. So we stopped at a place nearby for pizza and more bellinis. Headed back to the ship at 5:30. Finished packing and had dinner in the dining room. Had drinks and said good bye to everyone in the Observation Lounge and then finished off the night at The Club. We are now about to put our luggage in the hallway and then to bed. See you next cruise!!!

redheadednancy Posted April 23, 2012 #123 Share Posted April 23, 2012 Hi Dr Janey Still here and enjoying your news! How was Sharm el Sheikh? Thought about it as a possible for a quick week away in the sun from the UK, only if we weren't cruising! Now what is the Hard Rock???? thanks for sharing.:):) Fairbourne: It is the Hard Rock Cafe. They are all over the world and in most major cities. They have a gift shop and they sell Hard Rock pins as well as t-shirts, etc. People get the pins as sort of souvenirs to pin on hats,e tc. I always see them on baseball caps. Sometimes covered with Hard Rocks in unique locations. And as Dr. Janey says, they also sometimes trade them to have a complete collection!! See what an interesting past time we have started for you!! Am sure there is one in Scotland!
