Near the dock

Hi,

I will be taking the Carnival Victory to St. Lucia in a few weeks. We have a day pass for an all inclusive resort, but am wondering if there is a shopping area or any attractions withing walking distance of the pier.

You will dock at one of 2 piers, either Pointe Seraphine or La Place Caranage. Both have a duty free complex you have to walk through in order to get out into the city. diamonds Intl, Columbia Emeralds, other jewelry shops, Del Sol, perfume stores along with some local shops, etc. all inside both of them. Once out in town, there is the Castries Craft market and the produce and spice market across the highway - large building with red roof - can't miss it.

There is also Blue Coral, about a block in from La Place Caranage, which has some clothing stores, Rituals Coffee (like Starbucks) Subway, dominos right next door, a health store inside, shoe store, etc. From LPC, cros the road at the crosswalk right out front, turn right - at the light, hang a left and follow the road up to the several story building - it is blue on the top floors, maybe a 5, 6 minute walk from the LPC, about 20 minutes from Pointe Seraphine.

Enjoy!

Stopping in St. Lucia on the Carnival Victory.

Where does the ship dock?

How do I get to the spice market from there?

The Carnival Victory docks in Pointe Seraphine. The Castries Market is about a 10 minute walk from there.

You honestly can't miss it - you can see it from the ship at either dock - it is the large, sprawling red-roofed building right on across the road on the open waterfront. From Point Seraphine, head out of the duty free complex, hang a right through the fishing complex (there is usually a guy or two selling trinkets, etc at the entrance), once on the 2 way highway/road, turn right and follow the road till you come to the Castries Craft Market - this is where the produce, meat, fish and spice market are all located. Enjoy.

Is it pretty eash getting around St. Lucia, or do the people hassle you?

I will be going in early December on the Carnival Victory and it's my first time there.

Thanks!

Do you mean actually getting around the island via vehicle, etc or do you mean being harrassed in the immediate dock area where there are lots of vendors or all around the island? Many of the main tourist stops - viewpoints, sites, etc. have vendors but a polite no thank you goes a long way. As for walking around the city of Castries, no one is going to harrass you or beg, etc. Same with in the other towns - you may get one or 2 guys who ask you for money, but you get that anywhere really - again, a polite no and walk on.

As for easy to get around - no, it is not so easy, The immediate city of Castries is fairly walkable, but to get anywhere else, you need a taxi or a tour - and taxis are expensive! You could take th epublic bus up to Rodney Bay -about 30 minutes and you can catch them outside the port - they have M license plates. Once at RB area, you have to walk about 15 minutes to the beach.

Down to Soufriere and the Pitons - taxi or tour. It is about 1 hour and public transport is highly unreliable. Same with along the other coast.

Enjoy!
