Little Bay or Pinel Island?

We are sailing on the Carnival Victory and will be in St. Maarten on May 5 and were thinking about going to Little Bay for a relaxing beach day and do a little shopping in Phillipsburg. But the market in Marigot sounds appealing as well as Pinel Island. Any suggestions regarding these destinations and whether taxi is best or taking a tour?
