Soda Card

Well I'm not positive but since nobody answered for sure I'll tell you what I remember reading somewhere. I read that the card is $40 and drinks are normally $2.75 so that would mean if you drink at least 14 drinks you will get what you paid for. You would have to drink more than that to actually make it worth it.

I feel like I read a thread about how many sodas you need to drink to make the card worth buying..... any advice on the topic?

My granddaughter is going on a cruise this month. We purchased a soda card for her. The soda card also allows juices from what I understand. Anyway, her card was 45.00 for an 8 day cruise. Will she drink 3 soda/juices a day? I bet she does, plus it saves on her father's sail and sign card.

You can also get fruit punch on the soda card. My teenage boys did that at dinner a few times. They don't usually drink a lot of soda at home, but they're on vacation, and it was a treat. It was definitely worth it for teenage boys!

You have to average at least 3 sodas a day to make the card worth purchasing.

Another thing to consider is how many port days you have. If you have a port intensive itinerary, you may not be on the ship much to use the card during the day, so will have to drink that much in the morning or evening to make it worth the cost.

I don't drink 3 sodas per day (maybe 1 or 2 days I do,) but I still buy the card. It's just more convenient (and I sometimes like the juices.) When buying the sodas by the can, you're given the rest of the can as well (understandably, as you paid 2.00(?) for it.) It's just a hassle carrying it and the plastic cup as well. With the card, you carry just the cup.

The thing I hate about the soda card is you cannot get a full can to go. This got very old when I would go down to get my wife a soda and risk spilling it on the way back up or have the ice melt. I am not sure if we are going to do the card this time.

we got 2 cards on our cruise back in 2010 and I would say 2 cards was a waste. We could have gotten away with just 1 card between all of us.

On our cruise in December, we are taking the kids and will only get 1 card.

Coming from a heavy coke drinker, I didn't find it to be worth the money since I always had to make a special trip to a bar to get a glass full of coke. I drank 1/2 of it by the time I got back to the cabin. One year I found it to be more convenient to buy 2 liter bottles at the 1st port since ice was always in the cabin. I was on a tight budget and felt the card was an easy way to plan a flat fee. By my 3rd cruise I found it easier to just drink ice water while in the cabin and tea at dinner. It was all a matter of what was convenient.

Why not just buy the sodas individually if you don't drink that much?

My wife gets the card and I order it by the can when I feel like a soda since i drink the lemonade mostly onboard.

Soda cards were designed to be purchased per person.

Our last CCL cruise they would swipe the card at the register to make sure you were the owner of the card.

Are you able to order a coke with soda card through one of the servers that walk around on Lido or in one of the lounges? Or do you have to specifically go up to a bartender to get it?

Yes, you can get it from the servers! They'll check your card and run and get it for you.

Here's the "deal" for the soda program ....

Child Rate Per Day - $4.50 + 15% gratuity = $5.18 (17 & younger)

Adult Rate Per Day - $6.00 + 15% gratuity = $6.90 (18 & older)

In comparison a single can of soda costs 1.95 + 15% gratuity = $2.24

“Bottomless Bubbles” stickers can be pre-purchased by calling the Bon Voyage deparment or purchased at the ship’s Casino, Atrium, or Pool bars on embarkation day and the first sailing day only. The departure port's local tax rate may be added if pre-purchased or purchased on embarkation day prior to when the shops and full casino opens. The same is true (about taxes) for any drink purchased prior to leaving the port area.

In all areas where beverage service is offered including the theater, poolside, and MDR, guests may show the “Bottomless Bubbles” sticker to receive a glass of the carbonated drink of their choice. Juices may also be requested. One 16 ounce glass of soda or one 10 oz. glass of juice will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the S&S card with the sticker attached. Ice is added and takes up 1/2 of the glass, but you can ask for only a little ice to get more of the can poured per serving. (Most bars have the soda at room temp so most paxs. want some ice to cool the soda.)

The “Bottomless Bubbles” is unlimited program and Carnival frown's upon sharing. I have seen once where they suspended the unlimited privilege for a pax that had 1 sticker but would get sodas or juices for the whole family. Also it can not be used for the mini-bar or room service soda/juice charges. Also a word of warning if younger kids will be in any of the Carnival Camps where they can not sign themselves out they will not have access to an area to use their card for soda, but juices, iced tea, and water are provided right in the camp area.

Perhaps the biggest advantage to the soda card is for teens and adults that drink soda or juice on board at least 3-4 times a day. Additionally for teens it's a way that they may purchase the sodas without the parent/guardian needing to fund the child's S&S charge account.

Also available for pre-purchase through the BV dept. are soda tickets at the rate of 4 for $7.75. The soda ticket will get you the same 1 can of soda + cup of ice as if you were purchasing it on your S&S card, but you will save on the added 15% charge for the gratuity. This is a decent option for adults and children that may only be drinking 1 or 2 sodas a day.

We just saile on the Freedom and soda card was $48 per person. My husband and I thought that was just too much. I only drink about two cans per day. He can get by with just tea. We decided not to get it and I just had lemonade or tea with dinner. There were a couple of times I absolutely just needed a Coke due to headaches so we just purchased a can at the bar. Saved us some money and I was able to get my massage with the savings.:)
