parkeroh Posted April 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2012 DW and I had never been to Belize. We don't like paying extra for ship excursions. We try to book online from suggestions we learn here on CC. However we didn't have time to investigate this port for this cruise. We found a nice little outside bar, Cate's Lilly Pond, where $5 got you wifi all day per device. Cate, the owner, is from the States and was great to talk to and answered all questions. We friended her on FB. Beers were 2 for $5 and frozen mixed drinks were 2 for $7 or $8. We decided to venture past the walls of the port area and were pleasantly surprised to find a horse and buggy ride from a local named Mike for $25. Well, actually, he found us before we even got through the gates. Ride lasted about and hour and Mike was a great guide discussing everything from the local economy and politics to history, schools and produce. We felt very safe and got a better understanding of Belize that we wouldn't have if we stayed in the port area.
