Hello

We are arriving on HAL Prinsendam in June and was wondering where we will be docking. We do not depart until earl the next morning so we were thinking of either a private tour or taking the train somewhere but wondered if the ship docks in town or in a further port.

If any one can share information it would be appreciated.

thanks

I cannot help you where you will dock, but Bordeaux is a wonderful place to explore. You can take a private wine tour from there to St.Emillion which I am sure you would enjoy. At night in town, a lot of the busy small streets are set up as restos, and you will find a great deal of really nice places to eat.Enjoy..it has always been one of my favorite places.

My husband and I will be on the Seabourn Pride in May and have two full days in Bordeaux. We have found a terrific guy, Henri Challeau( a former sommelier) who has set up a terrific private tour for the two of us. You might want to check him out www.bordeaux-wine-travel.com Also look at a rent blog on the Hungry Chef -- Henri was his guide in Bordeaux.

Its great to hear that the Prinsendam is going back to Bordeaux. We loved docking there (overnight) a couple of years ago. They actually cruise all the way up the river and dock adjacent to a park-like promenade that is in the city. You can walk off the ship and also take advantage of local public transit, taxis, rental cars, etc. One interesting facet of this port is how they get the pilot onboard. Since they must have a local pilot for the entire journey up the river the French port authorities fly the pilot out to the ship on a helicopter and drop them on the deck via a cable hoist. They do the same when you leave and its quite an operation. They do force the passengers to stay inside the ship as its a bit dangerous with a helicopter operation outside.
