b2b vs. 14 night

We have booked the 14 night Grand Princess Eastern/Southern sailing. It can also be booked as b2b 7 nights. My question is this.

If you book the cruise as a 14 night, do we have to get off in Fll mid cruise and check back on as the people who booked it as a b2b?

if you booked the cruise as a 14 nighter you shouldnt have to get off as you have not finished the cruise but if you booked it as a b2b 7 nighter you should have to leave the ship to ding off and ding on with your new cruise card....if you do a b2b try and get the same room

I think you will have to get off the ship, I think they have to have the ship completely empty before boarding new passengers.

If you are platinum or elite there will be an advantage with back to back 7 day trips as you will get the computer time and other benefits for both. If a 14 day you will only get one set

We did a 10 day B2B(ie 20 days)under the one booking number last year and we did not have to get off. Everything just continued on.

BUT Beware of any deals you may have bought on board. eg photo packages or similar. We got caught out when we purchased a package and they never explained that the package was only valid for the first leg. After alot of heated discussion they did conceed that no where did it say this. As the photography shop was run seperately it did not recognise B2B's. Its not everyones "cup of tea" but we like getting our photos done as it is probably the only time we get dressed up.

I did exactly this in January just past and I can tell you that you will definitely have to get off the ship but you do not have to check in again like the new pax. Unless you want to go out and about (shopping or on an excursion) you will meet in a lounge and get off the ship at about 10 or 10.30am as part of a group of transit passengers. You will clear US immigration, then be escorted to a transit lounge to wait (we waited about 30 mins) for the ship to be cleared by the US border mob, then you will be allowed to reboard. Your new card and all the necessary instructions will be delivered to your cabin a day or so ahead of turnaround day.

If you do want to spend the day out, you simply depart before 10am clocking out with your old card, then when you return, you board with your new card, no checking in, just make sure you have your 'transit passenger' notice which will come with your new cruise card - you will have to go through security but then show the transit card and you can board.

Thnigs to check out! We did a B2B on the Emerald last February. It might be cheaper to book it as two 7 day cruises. Also a good TA could get you OBC for each 7 day cruise. Lastly you would get credit for two cruises if you broke it up.

Yes, you can get credit for 2 cruises booking as two 7 days, plus you can get two OBC's if you book with FCCs, but I booked it as a 14 day because it was significantly cheaper that way. I didn't need the credit as I'm Elite already.

Yes you will have to get off in FLL It doesn't matter if you booked it as a 14 day cruise you will still have to go through customs but you dont have to go through the whole check like you would if your cruise was ending. You will get a packet in your room explaining everything to you and you will get an intransit card to show when getting off the ship. Or you can go to a specified lounge at a certain time and they will escort you off the ship and back on :)

Is your cruise next January 5th? That's the b2b cruise I'm booked on. My TA feels I'll get double credit even though I only have one booking number. I guess I'll find out at some point.

one booking number = one cruise credit normally

There have been some postings when after a cruise someone was able to get the second credit by contacting Princess HQ.

Those who book a 14 day B2B as one cruise instead of two will be treated exactly the same as those who book it as two cruises.

This includes having a different cruise card for each segment and the procedures on turnaround day.

We went Ft Lauderdale through panama onto Vancouver , In los Angeles we had to get off and then re board as new passengers. We thought we would get credit for 2 sailings which would have made us platinum but they would not credit it as 2 .... because we booked it as one cruise.

We booked as a 14 day cruise out of FLL which in fact was two 7 day cruises. Yes we had to get off at FLL mid cruise. The one thing which really bugged me was the fact we bought a coffee card on one day, but when we got back on the ship they told us we could no longer have free filter coffee or tea! As we were now on another cruise! Well no not when i was actually on a 14 day cruise! Well after strong discussions with the beverage manager we had our cards stamped to include filter and tea for the rest of our cruise. My argument was that if my coffee card would not work for the last 7 days of my 14 day cruise, i wanted to have two cruise credits towards Elite! Has anyone else had problems with this.

I really think Princess have difficulties with designating cruises 'a 14 day cruise' when in fact on their schedule it is really 2 - 7 day cruises.

I was on the Grang for a 14 day cruise last December. The middle day back in Ft Lauderdale we hade to meet in a dinning room at 9:30 am. all 500 intansir passengers had to leave the ship and wait I the terminal until everyone complied with this requirement. it took about an hour people some passengers just can't follow instructions.

We prefer to book as B2B because we get 2 sets of FCC OBC's, 2 sets of military OBC's, 2 sets of shareholder OBC's, and Cpt. Circ. credit for 2 cruises. For instance, in fall, we'll be getting $1200 in OBC's instead of $800, because the first leg gives us an extra $400. Have Princess "link" the reservations.
