Gold Panning in Skagway

We are taking out grandaughter to Alaska this summer and she wants to try gold panning. We are doing 1 week on land and one week on the Diamond Princess which stops in Skagway.

 

Are the places around Anchorage where you can go to a mine and they help you with the panning and where you have a really good chance of getting some gold? I do not want her to be disappointed.

 

Princess offers a train-bus-gold panning excursion out of Skagway but it is really pricey (about $200 per person and $150 for the granddaughter). I have been looking at alternative non-ship tours in Skagway that combine the train-bus-panning and have not been able to come up with anything.

 

Any suggestions.
