bobbiejean Posted April 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Need help planning a beach day in Freeport for a family of 8 adults. Where to go and how to get there.
Bigdog2003 Posted April 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2012 We were there in January and we took a taxi to Junkanoo Beach. I think it was like 5 dollars a person. You get to use chairs, canos, kayaks, paddle boats. There was also a guy there with jet skis. It has a bar and restrooms right there on the beach and a guy playing island music. It was a very nice beach and we enjoyed ourselfs there. The only bad part about it was it was about a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride.
bobbiejean Posted April 19, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted April 19, 2012 I thought that beach was in Nassau.
Bigdog2003 Posted April 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2012 There is a public beach in Nassau with the same name. We got a little laugh out of that when we visited both.:p
Bigdog2003 Posted April 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2012 If you type in Junkanoo Beach club in Yahoo, you can view images and also go to their web site.
kcdancerkc Posted April 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2012 go to tripadvisor.com freeport click on things to do many beaches/excursions highly rated for a port nobody wants to seem to visit! The further from port - the prettier it gets
jmcancruise Posted April 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2012 With 8 people I would rent a van for the day and head to Gold Rock Beach. No facilities, but the most amazing beach you could ever find in the Caribbean.

At first I thought you were confused with Nassau until I looked at the pics for Junkanoo at Freeport. We were there in 2004 on the EOS and had a great time. I think at the time it was called a Paradise Beach Break or something like that. Didn't realize it was Junkanoo.
tracyanns Posted April 19, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 19, 2012 We went to Junkanoo before...we did it as the excursion with the food and drinks included...had a good time...music and games and stuff. I would avoid Lucaya...although I think it is prettier there, we spend more time turning down hair braiding, jewelry, tshirts and drugs than enjoying ourselves... katisdale Posted April 19, 2012 #10 Share Posted April 19, 2012 We were in Freeport last week and went to Paradise Cove. There is a reef offshore that you can snorkel to with lots of fish and pretty coral - about 600 feet from the beach. It cost $35 per person and included transport. There was food, drink beach chairs etc. at extra cost. We had a great time and would highly recommend this.
jpurdy Posted April 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Whatever you do, do NOT go to Lucaya and the 'public' beach. Not impressed at all. Very small area, with vendors hawking stuff, small stand for food and sand filled with cigarette butts. Even the walkway from sidewalk to beach is dirty and unkempt. Yuck. What used to be a pretty nice hotel that abuts it has gone downhill and looks downright empty now. We did go to the casino there, which is ok. Small, but we had fun. It is right across from the shopping area and there are some outside bars that are quaint and really fun. Sounds like the excursions are much better than what we did. We'll do an excursion from now on.
