mecruzalot Posted April 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Just wondering which side of the ship is better to be on starboard or portside for the 10 night Vancouver to Anchorage cruise/tour. Any info will help. Thanks
Cabunit Posted April 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2012 This is a highly subjective decision. Do you like being on the pier side or not when in port? Will you be on a balcony or the top deck in Glacier Bay? Do you want any chance of seeing land, even if far off, or is the open sea fine? Do you like sunrises or sunsets? Do you want to watch the pilot boats? I'm sure there are more factors to consider as well, but answering these will give you a start.
MeAgain2222 Posted April 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Depending on your cruise line, some of the ships actually do a 360 while in some of the harbors so that those on all sides of the ship get a terrific view of the glaciers, etc. Our TA recommended starboard side on N-bound trip and port on S-bound trip. Many say there is no poor view on a trip to AK...go figure, lol!
Budget Queen Posted April 20, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Inside passage views are on both sides, few if any of the ships sail "coastal" in open ocean, for the port southbound, starboard northbound recommendation. IF you ONLY want to see Glacier Bay from your cabin, and have the commentary match up with your views, then you need a port side cabin. Your superior views are outside on decks, and moving with the views. The ship turning comment, yields only a fraction of what is available. If you care to take advantage?
