OceanDreams Posted April 28, 2012 Author #51 Share Posted April 28, 2012 When we decide what dates we are going ... we'll join the roll call. Love them - you get to meet such great fellow passengers. My family and I were on Conquest in March and had a great time!We stayed at the QI in Gretna for the price and free parking. We had to wait for the shuttle both ways but there was a HIGH volume of cruisers. Hotel was full (no ice - hubby went down the street to Walgreens and bought a bag). Our room was fine but our friends room was not as nice. Not dirty' date=' just not as nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. LOVED cruising out of NOLA and down the river. Hubby had lived there for 15 years and thought that was one of the highlights of the cruise! Sur Mer is a hidden gem. Agree with what the previous poster said about the adult only "pool and hot tub". We actually ate near it after embarking, pointing out to my sons that they were not allowed there. I "escaped" a few times and never saw any kids except eating in the area on a sea day at the height of lunch time. We had GREAT, attentive service. Very clean! The ship is a bit dated but that didn't bother us a bit. Happy to answer any questions I can.[/quote'] When you say the ship is "dated" ... do you mean the decor or is the ship in need of repairs? Thanks everyone for the hotel suggestions. Really having a great time checking them all out. Does the Conquest have a webcam? If so, I sure can't find it. myno911 Posted April 28, 2012 #52 Share Posted April 28, 2012 We were on the Conquest Apr 15 - 22. We really liked the ship overall, the colors and design were not the in your face as some other Carnival ships. We found the ship to be very clean and in good condition. We had an aft warp balcony, and enjoyed it. The MDR service was great and the food was very good. Best food was in the Stakehouse. Never found the Lido deck crowed, but all the pool chairs were filled early each day. We had a big balcony so that did not matter. The Casino slots are very tight, usually I win a little but this week just fed the machines. We are booked on the Conquest again next year after it goes to dry dock. Counting the days :D:D:D The bad: we had to get off leedm we were getting off the Conquest as yall was getting on then we will also be on the Conquest at the same time next year. I agree The bad was having to get off
OceanDreams Posted April 28, 2012 Author #53 Share Posted April 28, 2012 How long does it take to travel down the Mississippi river? It appears that there is 3 exits into the Gulf of Mexico .... Does anyone know which the ship takes? OceanDreams
daijayx2 Posted April 28, 2012 #54 Share Posted April 28, 2012 I did walk off debark, and I called them.. twice as it wasnt clear which door to wait for them, I forgot (they did tell us when he dropped us off and the desk didnt seem to know). Someone else called them. Another large family of 5 or 6 walked up just as the bus pulled up.. so we had a full shuttle bus going back to the hotel with two large families plus me. Its a nice sized bus and the driver extra nice and friendly. But yes... we had to call them and wait maybe 20 minutes.. the hotel is not far away. PS after the shuttle my car windows were fogged up so I also had to take time to wipe them off with napkins from the breakfast buffet and had some purple stuff on my bumper to clean off before I could start home. Got a cup of coffee, but I guess nothing to stop you from eating the free breakfast when you get back to the hotel if you wanted to. Thanks so much for the info! Very useful!! Jemery Posted April 30, 2012 #57 Share Posted April 30, 2012 The work out room is excellent, and this is the only ship I've been on that has huge windows in the (free) sauna; it's an interesting effect. I didn't like that the Conquest doesn't have a forward facinig lounge area (or at least I never found one). -John
TerReuv Posted April 30, 2012 #58 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Please keep this thread up! I am learning so much about the Conquest and where to stay in NOLA. We are looking to book our second cruise the fall of 2013 on the Conquest. I know it will have had all the updates by then and we are really excited about it. I would love to hear more about the Conquest now and hopefully even more after the dry dock later this year. Also, info on where to stay is great. We will be driving from Atl and want to come in a fews days ahead of time to see the town. Do not care if we have the "New Orleans Experience" with our hotel, but we would love one reasonably priced and where we can leave the car while we are cruising. We have no problem getting into the city for our visit. Thanks again for all the info and keep it up!
jimmysgrl Posted April 30, 2012 #59 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Don't get an aft room on the Upper deck unless you want to listen to bad karaoke all night!! Even with the TV up couldn't drown out that noise! Had a balcony on the Empress before to and had no problems. :)

We will be cruising in August and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the Conquest and New Orleans before we sail. Here is a link to a great review of New Orleans -http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1615754 (you can also find it on the Gulf Coast Departures) Don't get an aft room on the Upper deck unless you want to listen to bad karaoke all night!! Even with the TV up couldn't drown out that noise! TerReuv Posted April 30, 2012 #61 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Thanks for the extra link for more info. I am reading everything I can. According to my parents I have been to NOLA but it was when I was pretty little so I don't even remember it. We are looking forward to going. We want reasonable pricing for lodging and as I said we do not have to be right in the thick of things.
1love Posted April 30, 2012 #62 Share Posted April 30, 2012 The service was very new orleans, and friendly. The huge platter of bacon was perfectly cooked, with scrambled eggs and grits and fruit and sausage gravy and bisquits (no waffles like chains do these days). But they are not the one in new orleans, they are in westbank. the shuttle driver was friendly and asked me to put a review up for their hotel on trip advisor and I will, but I did jewel and just got home monday from jewel. did 3 cruises in 3 weeks so just catching up. I had trouble getting online and the front desk changed my room which is more than the 3 star hyatt place in tampa did when I had live bugs. The service was good. Its rather black in that area, which might bother some. Its right on the access road when you get off the mississippi bridge. Lots of fast food to get something to eat for dinner. some would say holiday Inn superdome is iffy too for neighborhood with that almost vacant block next to it. Great info firefly!!! lillian marie Posted May 1, 2012 #67 Share Posted May 1, 2012 We were on her in March. Anytime dining went really smoothly for 7 of us. We never had to wait. The staff was great too. We really liked the fish and chips station on the Lido area-upstairs for lunch. There was major confusion and a mob trying to get off at the same time in Cozumel. We were close to missing our CCL sponcered tour. Overall we had a great time.

Thanks Gregg for your answer.... Is there anything to see along this path. I realize that it is a shipping route and if the ship leaves between 4pm and 5pm, and as it gets darker in the evening you really won't be seeing much but twinkling lights. It looks kind of cool going down the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico. OceanDreams

One of the highlights of the week! He was on the balcony until the sun went down and then back watching the lights off the oil rigs. I found it facinating with all the twists and turns. OceanDreams Posted May 2, 2012 Author #74 Share Posted May 2, 2012 All ships go through Southwest Pass. The Corps Of Engineers keeps it dredged to about 40 feet. Awesome .... I feel better now. While I was looking at the Google Earth layout I was thinking the other paths look pretty shallow. He was on the balcony until the sun went down and then back watching the lights off the oil rigs. I found it facinating with all the twists and turns. Sometimes it looked like we were just going in circles! I have cruised a couple of times out of Galveston....but never out of New Orleans. I getting excited about the possible feeling of being on a River Boat cruise.....but of course a much bigger ship. Everyone here has been great with the information.....please keep it coming.
