Comfort Suites Atlantis - Add on fees

I am confused about the housekeeping fees and such for Comfort Suites.

If I am to book the room (and not stay the night or even enter the room) so we can go to Atlantis, it is $429 which includes $81 in tax. Then here are the extras for add-ons for a room we will never use.

Energy surcharge: 13.95 per person per night. Housekeeping gratuities: 5.00 per person per night These are additional charges not included in nightly estimated total and must be paid directly at the hotel. Persons 16 and older are charged as adults. 3rd/4th person charged 40.00 per night + tax and service charges.

Do the kids count as the 3rd/4th person in the room? My girls are 14 & 12.

If I go by this, our total would be $429 plus $40 X 4 plus $13.95 X 4 plus $5 X 4. Total ends up at $664.

Really confused as to what to do - book thru Carnival, Comfort Suites or look at majestic tours (which I haven't done yet) .

I was looking into the Comfort Suites too, then saw this post two days ago by Scubagirl...

Atlantis was finally sold to Brookfield. Kerzers had defaulted on loans these past two years and needed to sell.

Here's what we know so far.. I'm sure there will be alot of new information in the coming months. No word yet of how this will affect the property.

Something to think about before you book an expensive room you may not get to use.

Nervous about the sale too but I can cancel the room up to 24 hours in advance.

I was going to prepay (non refundable) the room thru Comfort Suites Choice Priviledges for a cheaper rate a few days ago but I have a friend that is there now and they have had the worst weather in the Bahamas this week. They've been holed up at the bar and casino all week. Today she got a grapefruit, bagel with cc and a coffee at the Atlantis for a mere $33.

I am curious if I have to pay the extra $40 per kid. I might have to call Comfort Suites directly to find out but wanted to see what the experiences were with the CC crowd.

If you go to the comfort suites website, you can see what ages are considered adults and who has to pay.

Check the details for booking a room... it's all spelled out for you.

As for fees and surcharges.. most of these are gov't taxes and union fees and surcharges. If a room is booked.. whether or not it's used.. the union will still collect their fees and the govn't will still get their taxes.

Also.. I believe you need to cancel 1 week out. Not 24 hours.

My question are the kids considered 3rd and 4th person in a room for that extra $40 apiece?

Their definition of an adult is 16 yrs or older but does adult equate to the 3rd/4th person in the room.

I think that I will be paying an extra $40 for all four of us plus the $13.95 for all of us but not sure.

Cancellation is 5 days before when reserved. However, I think when I was looking to transfer AMEX points room that might have had a 24 hours cancellation.

If you are 4 ppl with 2 adults and 2 kids under 16

you will pay the base rate for the 2 adults (room charge)

No add'l room charge for the 2 kids

All four of you will pay 13.95 pp energy surcharge per nite

All four of you will pay $5 pp housekeeping per nite

Plus 18% tax on the total.

Here is the breakdown.

Thanks so much for clarifying. Eighty dollars does help in making the decision whether to book Comfort Suites or go thru Carnival.

  • 4 weeks later...

The replies about children not being charged is correct. We had one child and weren't charged the extra fee for him. But, after I booked, I called the hotel to confirm what the final charge would be..just to make sure. There were 5 in our group and you only get 4 admissions (bracelets) per "room" (which nobody uses). So we booked the 5th person an excursion thru Carnival. We all got off the ship together. 4 of us took a cab to Comfort Suites and the 5th person went with the Carnival group in a van. Our group "checked in" and even though it was early in the morning, we got our bracelets for admission (per the desk clerk it's a common common practice and hardly anyone comes back to "use" the room), and walked next door to Atlantis. Just as we got to the front entrance, the van from Carnival pulled up. Couldn't have been simpler and we did save around $100 by doing the "room" at Comfort Suites. And no, as someone asked before, you don't have to go back to check out. Simple, simple. Checkin, get your bracelets, and go.

I booked a room directly through Atlantis for less than both Comfort Suites and Carnival. 4 ppl - two adults and two kids ages 10 & 9. The reservationist told me where we could change, etc. early in the morning before checkin. She knows what I'm doing - checking out without even seeing the room. This might be worth looking into.

We were there last summer while on Majesty of the Seas and I booked

a room at CS thru choice hotels dot com. I told them at check in I would not be using the room that I wanted to check in AND out at the same time. I was merely there to pay the fee just to get the armbands for use of the waterpark. The desk clerk refunded all the housekeeping and enery charges from my bill. I figured I wouldn't use the room anyway- as it was not going to be available until 3pm. Try asking the clerk when you get there if you can do the same!

Although this does happen from time to time.. it's not the policy.. since the unions have a say in collecting those fees.. based on the number of rooms sold.
