daveky Posted May 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2012 Coming up on my first Med cruise and was wondering about water taxis on the day of debarkation in Venice. Always debarked where there where taxis, buses, etc. but never experienced something like this. Will be staying over in Venice and water taxi will be over to a hotel and fly out next day. Any comments on debakation at this port is welcomed. Dave

You can either hire a water taxis to take you to your hotel, . . . or, take the cruise shuttle to Pl. Roma, purchase a vaparetto pass for the day, and the the water 'bus' to the nearest stop near your hotel. The pass would then allow you to take the public boat transport around Venice to see the sights. It is quite efficient and regular. Next day, make your way back to Pl Roma, and you can get an Airport express ground bus (ATCV - I think) to the airport, a local bus with stops, . . . . or take a water taxi or water bus to the airport. Another option if needed, if you have simply a day pack, you can leave your larger luggage right at Pl Roma at a place call Left Luggage for a day for a fee and get it the next day before you get on the bus to the airport. This way, you would not need to take this with you on the vaparetto and through the streets of Venice. Good Luck
daveky Posted May 14, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Thanks for the response and where to post. I cruise so much, usually most of my questions/responses are on this board. Not use to the different boards for Q & A
Matcodixon Posted May 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2012 What Brent has posted is by far the most inexpensive method, and certainly quite scenic and not too difficult. That said, Water Taxis are exceptionally easy but quite expensive.. It all depends on your budget. (or complete lack thereof) It also depends on where your hotel is located. Roma, a land taxi is easier. As we left the customs hall, there was a guy behind a desk calling water taxis in on his telefoninno. You told him where, he called in a taxi to the dock and gave you a slip with the taxi number on it. While at the desk, pick up someone to share with. They easily handle 6 and it makes it cost effective.
Otterman34 Posted May 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Is this a possibility? Is the airport near the water and will we ba able to hire a water taxi to take us and all of our luggage to a convenient drop off point at the airport (VCE)? Thank you

lalawgirl Posted May 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2012 For those of us heading to the airport after disembarkation -- Will regular taxis be hard to find?
weaselwatchr Posted May 29, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 29, 2012 We used the Alilaguna from our hotel, the Hilton, to the airport. We left our hotel at 6:30am, and it accomodated all our luggage, for 15 euros each. Yes, we had to stop at each bus stop, but we left plenty early and it was much cheaper than a water taxi. I have heard that sometimes public transport may limit the amount of baggage you can bring on board, or charge you an extra fare as well. We had no issues whatsoever. You may want to research this if you are thinking of using the ground bus. (In case you are wondering we had two large suitcases, two rollerboards, a backpack, large purse and two shopping bags.) renebfl Posted June 2, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 2, 2012 We just disembarked this week. When we had 2 nights prior to our cruise in Venice. we chose a hotel near the Rialto bridge. We took a water taxi right to the hotel's door and it cost 120 E. We chose a hotel close to the Grand Canal, Ca'Angeli, It was perfect. We took a water taxi to the port right next to the ship for 80E. On return from the cruise, we stayed near the Pl Roma,(bus station), Santa Chiara. It was good for 1 night but not the caliber of our first one. We took a ground taxi for there to the airport for 45E. The valprotetto station was right there for our 2nd hotel. Both were perfect for what we wanted
