Pride of America review - Hawaii

I have to say for those who have not been to Hawaii before you will probably love this cruise. For my family, we were just in Hawaii 18 months prior and did the land tour of the islands. We wanted to return as we had a conference in Oahu and thought it would be a fun way to see the islands.

Embarkation: It was a breeze. We are latitude members so we got on right away. They presented all of us with laui and we were on our way to the ship. Our room was ready right away so we went to unpack and get organized.

Room cabin: We had a cabin on the 9th floor with a Balcony. This is my 18th cruise and I thought the room was very small. However, we were traveling with a three year old for the first time, so this probably contributed to the smallness.

Ship decor: It was an older decor but it was still in very good shape. It had all the usuals of a cruise ship minus the casino.

Excursions: We did the ziplining tour in Kaui. This is a fantastic tour and not to be missed. We also did the luai in Kaui which was really terrific. Blew the luai we did in Maui, 18 months prior out of the water. In Hilo, we did the volcano tour which was really great to see. Do not miss this! In Kona, we hung out at the beach. The ship docks and you tender right to a beautiful cove beach. In Maui, we did the whalewatching tour one day, which I would not recommend and then did the Wailea Beach tour. Do this tour! It is truly fantastic- basically, drops you at a beach in front of the Four Seasons and provides chairs and water. Excellent and very affordable.

Crew: I have no idea why people would say the crew was not friendly. They truly were second to none! On 18 cruises, the American based crew was some of the best that I have ever encountered! Say hi to Kalo from the bar area for me! Housekeeping was also fantastic and we had towel animals, and clean rooms every night.

Entertainment: Fantastic! The comedian is hilarious and you do not want to miss his show! We also had a four seasons tribute band which was great.

Kids center: FANTASTIC!! If you are traveling with young kids, make sure you enroll them. They took care of my daughter all week and we were sad to leave them.

Food: Terrible! The dining hall was inedible. This was the worst tasting food on any ship I have traveled on. The speciality restaurants were slightly better. I would spend the extra money and dine there. Trust me!

Overall, we enjoyed the cruise! Enjoy Hawaii- it is beautiful! I have tons of pictures here for your viewing pleasure from the cruise: http://www.the-mommyhood-chronicles.com/2012/05/wordlesswednesday-norwegian-pride-of-america-cruise/

What was wrong with the whale watching excursion?

I'm assuming they saw little to no whales as the whale watch season in Hawaii ended a few weeks ago. I'm surprised they are still offering whale watches at this point to be honest.

Exactly right- they really should have not offered it. The excursion after us, as well as the following day, saw no whales either.
