teaach Posted May 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2012 How come some cruises are so inexpensive? I just saw an 8 day cruise to the Bahamas from NYC for $549 balcony. Anybody have any info on the reasonable price? Rough water, bad weather season, I don't get it.
doconner Posted May 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Are these the dates that are either between Thanksgiving and Christmas, or just after NYE? Those are really low times for vacation travel. Thats my guess.
isaiahsnana Posted May 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Most of the winter cruise dates for the Magic out of Galveston for balconies are less than 550$! Our sail date is $519 to Key West and the Bahamas.
wrigley80 Posted May 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2012 That is not too uncommon. And if you see a price like that you should jump on it while it is still that low.

It's a great deal so long as you understand what you're getting (the cold beginning and ending of the cruise).

Our sail date is $519 to Key West and the Bahamas. I don't see one balcony on any of the Magics voyages for less then 700. I see insides at those prices but not one balcony. You sure got a *special* rate. Hugh in Dallas
Kissyfur19 Posted May 22, 2012 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Was it during the early fall? That is the most active time for hurricane season (End of August through September...maybe even into early Oct)...so cruise prices tend to be very reasonable! So you could have this for a week: Or you could have this for at least 3 days: $549 is probably A LOT less than what it would cost to take a 3 day land vacation to the Bahamas including airfare from NYC and meals, so my answer is YES:D

And there are a couple of others for $719 and $729 but that's it.
golfadj Posted May 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2012 We cruise during the winter to avoid cold weather for a week. To deal with a day and a half each way out of NY is not as good as leaving from a warm weather port in Florida. Also IMHO itinerary is pathetic. If they went to HMC and Grand Turk would make it much more attractive.

elcuchio24 Posted May 22, 2012 #18 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Thats a good price but not unheard of. We usually book in the low season....this fall we did a 7 night Western carib on Liberty for $529pp for a balcony. Last May we did a 7 night Easter carib on Liberty for $449/pp. Book in the low season, book ES, stay vigilent for price drops.....

And I don't even want to do that stinky itinerary even if I didn't have the cold sea days. Besides, the chance of having it snow on Lido during sailaway would put my over the edge:eek: If I sail in winter, I will fly to FL and head somewhere more south where I can be pretty certain the destinations will also be warm...Nassau can be chilly in the middle of winter;)

Our sail date is $519 to Key West and the Bahamas. Mine was $1134 pp for DH and me for a balcony when I booked for July 1. We booked because we will be with family and friends (yes kid in school, another is a psychology teacher, so no off season for us). Thankfully, we got some price drops which brought fare down to $919 pp. for DH and me. Now I see why a lot travel off season. Daughter's price was $599 (when booked) and went down to $479 (3rd person in room).

ALOT of people take the kids out of school for 3 days and get a week's vacation in. I'm surprised it's that low.
