Port Canaveral: nearby and inexpensive

Due to some home repairs going overbudget, hubby and I have decided to forego Aquatica and do activities nearby. We don't want to rent a car, but we can if need be. What can one do near PC that isn't "the beach", and is inexpensive?

due to a general lack of decent public transportation renting a car is probably your best bet

things/places you can look at (try google)

Kennedy Space Center (still a little $$)

Jetty Park - nice beach (oops, sorry, u said no beach)

Canaveral/Cocoa Pier - also nice beach and couple of bars

Cocoa Village - nice little 'quaint' shopping area

Brevard Zoo and Tree Top Trek - nice little zoo and a zip line attraction

assorted kayak tours - google kayak cocoa beach

Ron Jon - your are required, by law, to buy a Ron Jon t-shirt if a visitor

assorted airboat rides - google again . . .

Here are some other ideas:

1. A 2-hour boat ride on the Indian River Lagoon with Island Boat Lines http://www.islandboatlines.com/Home_Page.php

2. An airboat ride at Lone Cabbage Fish Camp http://www.twisterairboatrides.com/

Also Ron Jon's, as suggested by Capt_BJ, is a must.

Of course, you'll need a rental car for any of these.

You are going to need to rent a car unfortunately. I highly recommend the Brevard Zoo. (My sister volunteers there, my friends work concessions and my old elementary school made something called zoo school, so this is a biased suggestion...) They have a good zip line that I still have not done yet.

Kennedy Space center is expensive, only good if you never been there before otherwise it is very boring. Kayaking is fun, I own two kayaks and we sometimes go out on the Indian or Banana rivers.
