momme224 Posted May 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2012 i was looking to do the disney 5 night cruise out of NYC to nova scotia and st. john with my husband and 2yr old and 4 yr old. i wanted to know if both ports of call have beaches to swim at? although i love the caribbean, we are looking for something with less days that works around our vacation time. i am trying to google this info and look for pictures of the beaches but i am having no luck. also, if there are beaches, approx how far are they from the ship? since i am traveling w 2 little ones i am trying to make this as easy as possible thanks!!!!! maryann ns Posted May 30, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2012 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Halifax and Saint John are cities and you have to go some distance to find a beach. You would be best to rent a car. Halifax does have things to appeal to children, however. Check out going for a ride on Theodore Tugboat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Tugboat http://www.mtcw.ca/theodoretugboat/ Here is a bit I found about beaches: http://nsbeaches.com/counties/halifax-county.php http://www.trailcanada.com/nova_scotia/halifax/day_trips/ Halifax and Dartmouth do have some lakes with swimming areas. One fairly close one is Chocolate Lake. You would need to go by car, taxi, or bus. http://www.halifax.ca/rec/beaches.html http://www.halifax.ca/hrmyouth/recreation/Swimming.php#outdoorbeaches Here are some previous posts I found by doing a search.
