Solo1959 Posted June 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2012 Can you use extra money in the casino? Left over cash. Last year I visited Nassau and made some purchases while I was there. Some of the change they gave me was Bahamas currency which was worthless when I got home so I gave some of it away as a souvenir. It was a waste. If I go to the casino after visiting the port, be it the Bahamas, Canada, where ever, would the ship's casino accept the non-American currency? Or am I just stuck with it? Would they charge an exchange rate? Even if the money was on par with American currency?
hill6 Posted June 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2012 I have not seen anything about using non US currency. they will glady take your US currency at any time.
misguidedangel Posted June 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2012 The casino will take US only. FYI-if you go to the bank with foreign currencies they will convert it to US and can deposit it back to your account. All banks should do foreign exchange, but you can also go to businesses that deal with foreign exchange currency transactions only, but it will cost more to convert it back. Sh1035 Posted June 2, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 2, 2012 banks,Yes and it's not an easy transaction....check the current rate,a phone call or two...not worth the hassle unless it's worth the time for the money.

They will only exchange paper bills, not coin. PITA when you have a bunch of Canadian Loonies and Toonies or Euro coin. We see foreign currency as another souviner. OP--If the ship is doing the same itin you could tip a crewmember with the local currency.
pinkmaija Posted June 2, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 2, 2012 I always carry small bills so I dont end up with their change. Ditto...that's the way to go! It's almost time to start hoarding 1s and 5s. :)
Solo1959 Posted June 2, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted June 2, 2012 OP--If the ship is doing the same itin you could tip a crewmember with the local currency.Thank you for the suggestion. That's the best idea. I didn't have 100s of dollars, just a few stray Bahamas dollars. I know money is good for crew, and if they're returning, they'd just as soon get local money. Thanks again. serene56 Posted June 2, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 2, 2012 I always carry small bills so I dont end up with their change. ditto- never take bigger bills then 5's & 1's into port. My change is just that-change Our money is worth more to them then their own--so if you want dollars--use your own
ClarkBHM Posted June 2, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 2, 2012 Ditto...that's the way to go! It's almost time to start hoarding 1s and 5s. :) No reason to hoard them. Just walk into your banks and ask for them. They'll even wrap them for you if you'd like.
GOLDIEDA1 Posted June 2, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 2, 2012 When I had left over Bahamian currency while in Nassau I just went into one of the shops and asked if they would give me American currency in exchange for the Bahamian dollars and they gladly did so.
