Wal*Mart in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

We're leaving out of Vancouver soon on a cruise with an infant. We're staying at a hotel very near the cruise ship terminal, and plan to spend some time sightseeing and such beforehand.

However we also want to buy some necessities such as diapers, formula, drinks, random items we forgot to pack...

Does anyone know if there is a Wal*Mart type of store downtown where we can quickly(and cheaply) pick up these items? We have less than 2 days in Vancouver and I don't want to waste great touring time running around trying to buy baby wipes.

Thanks

There is no WalMart type store close to Canada Place your best bet for the items you describe would be London Drugs which has a 20,000 sq. ft. two level store at the corner of Georgia and Granville Sts. which is about 7 blocks from Canada Place. There are a couple of other smaller drug stores between Canada Place and London Drugs but they don't have the selection & LD tends to be the price leader.

There is a Wal-Mart at the Capilano Mall in North Vancouver. You could take the seabus over and catch the bus to the mall. If you have a costco card, there is costco downtown but the quantities may be too much for what you need. London Drugs is probably your best bet for what you need and easily accessible from Canada Place.

The nearest WalMart is quite a trek out of town (Grandview Hwy, near Boundary); however I would recommend the following, which are close to the cruise terminal;

CostCo (located next to Rogers Area/Stadium Skytrain station - use the lower exit)

Save On Foods (Cambie & 7th); easily accessible via Canada Line Skytrain (Olympic Station)

or just bite the bullet and ride Skytrain to one of the major malls like Metrotown (12 minutes, $3.75 on Skytrain Expo/Millennium Line) or Oakridge (12 minutes, $2.50 on Skytrain Canada Line). A Skytrain ticket is good for 90 minutes in any direction so if you're quick you should be able to go out and back on a single ticket.
