canjay95 Posted June 6, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2012 We are planning on swimming at the beach right off the cruise ship terminal. Do we need water shoes? I thought someone mentioned something in a thread about the beaches being rocky, but wasn't sure if that beach is what they were referring to...thanks! Rare crewsweeper Posted June 6, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Beach to the left of the pier with MV is sandy. Beach tot eh right of th epier has rocky points further down the coast. Cheap water shoes are just fine though. I have a pair from WalMart I got 2 years ago for $4. They're still in good shape.
mara93 Posted June 6, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2012 If you're swimming directly in front of the ship, they are not necessary.
mrsfuzzmo Posted June 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Nope, not necessary. Lots of nice sandy areas!!
WillieD13 Posted June 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2012 Even if you don't use them in the water, water shoes are nice for just walking around the area, as the pavement does get a wee bit warm, and it eliminates the need for multiple sets of footwear. I will also note that if worn in the water, they will fill up with sand, that stuff gets in everything.

Never been there, but check if there are sea urchins. I stepped on one last year. The first thing EVERYONE asked me was "weren't you wearing water shoes" :D
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2012 As others have said not necessary. Keith
curacao Posted July 6, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 6, 2012 Never been there, but check if there are sea urchins. I stepped on one last year. The first thing EVERYONE asked me was "weren't you wearing water shoes" :D I was wearing shoes and scuba fins in Grand Turk and still got stuck with a sea urchin, so be aware that shoes will just help if you step on anything. Very painful. Just be careful..
