weiss5682 Posted June 6, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2012 has anyone used the internet on the ship while in the Baltics? How slow is it? Is it worth a buying a package or should you use the internet at the ports? thanks
Rare mking8288 Posted June 6, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2012 AFAIK, satellite signals for internet access on the ship is the same regardless of its relative position on high seas, same tower & similar bandwidth, limitations & speed (2G's & slow) - as well as pricing, PAYG or bundled minutes. Plan & research on availability ahead for your ports - in most instances, much faster, reliable & less costly - to free WiFi hotspots.

Thank you...this sounds great! We're off to Norway, Faroes and Iceland in a few days. Do you know (or has anyone tried it) on board, or is it just for using ashore? Many thanks! Is it worth a buying a package or should you use the internet at the ports? thanks We just returned home from saling JOS in the Baltic. Internet on board is as 'slow' as in other cruise ships. We purchased one of their Internet packages on board because it was more convenient for us and everything worked fine. They did offer a 'special low price of $0.44 per minute' if you used the Internet between 7 AM and 9 AM. (I believe regular price was $0.65 per minute unless you had 'package') I remember seeing crew members at most of the ports of call using their laptops and IPads at the shops just outside the ship.
