Anyone win big in casinos?

Since I'm only 20 and can't gamble at the boats here, I'm looking foward to being able to do the slots on the Triumph. I heard that they only have an 85 or 87% payout rate though. Well I don't know how to play roulette or anything, but just wondering what's the most any of you have won from the slots on your cruise?

You will get stories of winnings on cruise ships, but most pax lose on cruiselines as they do not have the same payouts as Vegas nor follow gaming rules. My suggestion is to budget your cash. Set aside a daily allotment and don't go over it when it's gone. I love video poker and slots but I save my gambling for Vegas as the slots on the cruise ships are generally very cold. Happy Sailing!

As other posters have said payouts are low. Do yourself a favor and get a gambling program (MS Casino etc) before you go and learn how to play the table games. If you are fun and outgoing (your posts seem to indicate it) then play Roulette or better yet (if they have it, not all ships do) craps. Most ships now also have poker games (Texas Hold em) but you better know what you are doing before you step in (many ships have lessons, but maybe not in poker). You will have better odds playing a table game. I am hopeless at Blackjack but if you can remember the rules (when to hit etc) it can be a lot of fun too. Most of all do not let the table games intimidate you. I took forever to try them out and now I am completly hooked and only play slots when I have lost my mind or had too many drinks, whichever comes first.

I loved playing the "Wheel of Fortune" slot machines on the Grand Princess back in August of 2003. Won a couple hundred dollars that way. But it was the cheesy little slot machine at the bar where I hit for $700.00. They had lessons on craps and I had a great time learning that. It was fun but I lost most of the time.

I played slot machines in the casino every night last year when we went to Alaska on RCCL and really didn't win anything. I would set a limit on how much to play and quit when it was gone . . . but then my husband forced me to play BINGO on the last day of the cruise and I won the white-out for over $7500! Guess what my favorite game is now.

I won $120 on a dollar slots (after I put in about $20), but my big win came during the final bingo game ($3800). I probably gambled $200 during that cruise. Just keep it in moderation and have a great time.

P.S. I am in my twenties and love BINGO!;)

On the Destiny two years ago i won $322 on quarter slots. Went back to cabin to get ready for dinner and on the way showed hubby what machine i used so i put $10 in and hit for another $400 dollars on the first spin. After dinner went to pursers desk and put on sign and sail card.

My grandmother won $350 one night and $150 a couple of nights later. Meanwhile her sister lost everything.

I was $15 ahead from playing blackjack, during the course of the whole cruise. My Brother broke even (I think) and my sister-in-laws parents were ahead $400 on BJ.

  • 2 weeks later...

I won $700 on the S/S Norway on the triple 7's slot machine on our honeymoon. And, I won $500 on RCL's Majesty of the Seas for my first cruise. BUT, I lost $200 on the Pacific Princess (but, won a fiance in the process!!!! :D ~ got engaged on the last night of the cruise right at midnight all the way aft on the top deck of the ship!)

First cruise last Oct....Star Princess.

First day...$300 bingo...did well at table games (Let It Ride, 3 Card Poker)...just then DH won $500 in blackjack tourney. We gambled the rest of the week on Princess w/ those winnings! Tournaments are a good deal. $25 to try to make final table. If you know the game it is good--but tournaments are just as much about betting wisely as playing wisely. Now, the last couple of trips we took to Vegas were HORRID--last one we literally couldn't win a hand of blackjack! Didn't gamble much on that trip!

Regarding returns--most ship casinos are run by big name casinos (ie Ceasars) and under the same regulations as Vegas. We know we got lucky on this cruise. But let's face it--$3billion casinos aren't built because most of us are winning!

But if you enjoy it, set a budget, and consider it part of your entertainment/activity budget.

Happy cruising!
