A quick review of Summit to Bermuda 6/3 to 6/10.

First just to let you know, I am not a writer or a typist, so don’t expect a Nobel Prize here.. Wife and I booked this cruise about 6 weeks out for a quick get away vacation. Got a good deal from the company we used. Got $50 bus transportation to Bayonne and back to Delaware per person. Was a great way to get there and back! We were dropped right off at terminal and didn’t even have to touch luggage until we unpacked. Check in was quick and easy and we were on ship in less than 15 minutes.

Was in a inside, deck 2 mid-ship. Met our room attendant,”Cletus”. We requested ice every morning and evening and this was our only request. He was fastastic. Every time we returned we had fresh ice and towels. Room was always clean and a smiling face in the hall when we passed.

Was our first time on a Celebrity Cruise. We are Platinum on Princess so we didn’t know what to expect. What we did know is from what we learned on this site. Not going to go into long details but will give you some in site on what we had and did. Will try to answer any question you have for us.

We had select dinning and was not very impressed with the way they handled it. We had a paper in the room that said call for times. We called and was told nothing available until 9:00, so we said to heck with it and went on a tour of ship and purchased beverage package and wife got a spa package. After our tour, walked passed the dinning room and saw no lines. Went to room and got ready for dinner. Went back down and was seated right away at 6:45. All week, I couldn’t figure this select dining out. One night we waited a hour and a half in the wine cellar until that came and got us. A lot of unhappy people that night. It seems like at least on this cruise everyone wanted 6:00 and 8:30 like regular dinning. Food all week was excellent, the waiters seemed to be rushed and hustling and never no time to even talk. Wine service was good, but the bar service was really slow or non existent in dinning room. Never checked to see if we wanted another cocktail. And ordering a cordial after dinner was an event. Was funny, when we were able to get one with dessert, you never knew what type of glass it would come out it, brandy glass, on the rocks glasses, but we did get a cordial glass once. Over all the food was very good in the dinning rooms.

On to the shows, typical cruise variety, was good. The comedian Michele Balan was very good. Another good show was an cappella group named Up Til 2. Bar service in Theater was bad, two shows we never was offered any drinks. Also drinks in the pool area was slow, it was a lot easier to go the bar and get it yourself. Casino was nice but very cramped and also poor bar service.

We did our own excursions, but weather was windy and a little rain all 3 days so not much beach time.

In my summationI thinke the ships is in great shape. I think this cruise catered to the more mature crowd with entertainment. Not sure if it was just this cruise or normal for Celebrity. Noticed the new Wine Cellar hardly ever had anyone in it. Also Crush never seemed busy, but the Martini Bar was a big hit.

Alot of people seem to ask about the differences of the two lines so here is our obsevations ;

Princess has better drink service. Princess anytime dining works better. The plus’ for Celebrity is the beverage package, the food, and friendlier officers. So would we go on Celebrity again – YES. But Princess is still our #1 choice at this time.

Thanks for the review. You pretty much summed up our experience from the week before. If you really wanted a drink you were better off getting one yourself and beverage service in the dining room (we also had select) was pretty poor. Heaven forbid you wanted another ice tea or cup of coffee. The wine stewards were on the ball though.

So nice to read your review. We are Elite with Princess and considering a Celebrity cruise this summer to Bermuda. First time with X and looking forward to the new experience...I think.

Yes we did hit Micheals, was a very nice pub, we usually ended the night there. They had a young singer and gutiar player name Andrew Harprin. We had a night cap or two of Baileys on the rocks and listened to the music. We had the classic package. All our drinks were covered, screw drivers, Sweet tea with lemonade(wifes favorite) martini's at Rendevous Lounge were even cover, just not in the Martini Bar. Plus cordials with dinner plus the house wines.

We went on a Millenium cruise last year and absolutely loved it. What made me laugh about your review is that we had the same problem with after dinner drinks at dinner. My husband ordered a Grand Marnier one night and it was served in a cordial glass. He pushed a made a deal about it and our sommelier was so helpful that he stepped up and brought it in the right glass. Other than that, the cruise was amazing.
