Sun Princess

 A few questions for anyone who has cruised on the Sun Princess recently.

How was the food and entertainment. Are the balcony cabins worth the money?

Do the $1 slots pay pretty well. In general - how does the ship look and feel?

We're booked on the northbound inside passage on August 1st. Thanks!!!!

Check out the "Live from the Sun Princess" post. The post was started back a few months ago and has been going strong ever since. Lots of great information about the ship and food. Having just returned from the Sun Princess, I can tell you that the ship is in great shape. We had a balcony cabin on the Riviera deck and loved it. The balcony is a little small and cut in the hull of the ship, but it is fully covered and private and plenty big for 2 people. The food was okay, lobster tails the best I ever had.

We were just on the Sun in April on 10-day Caribbean cruise. The ship was delightful, very clean, well maintained. Food was very good (and lots of it), the service everywhere was top-notch as far as we could tell .. we sure were treated nicely and we just had a regular balcony Aloha deck cabin. We really loved the ship. Every single staff member we came in contact with was courteous no matter what their job/time of day was. (Of course we were also nice to all of them, that is a two-way street so to speak).

The only place I cannot comment on was the casino, it was smokey in there so we avoided it. The Horizon Court seemed fine, but we are not buffet people so we did not actually eat in there altho we did pop in to grab a sandwich to take to our cabin one afternoon.

We had a balcony cabin and while the balcony was small (2 chairs and a table) it was fine for us. We used it alot actually, it was quiet, private and made the cabin feel bigger then it was. As for cabin, we managed just fine, plenty of closet space, luggage fits under bed, etc. Bathroom was small but again, manageable - no problem.

I think you will enjoy the Sun -- and go for a balcony!!

You will love the Sun! It was one of the nicest ships we have been on in the Princess fleet. The rooms are smaller than the grand class ships but how much are you in your room? We loved the food, service, entertainment, everything about this cruise was great. We hooked up with other CC cruisers and hit it off from the very start. We always had someone to team up with to go on excursions, dinner, drinks, shows with.

You will love it. Be sure to post on the LIVE FROM THE SUN thread and let us know how you liked it.

Does the Sun have a laundromat?

Yes, it has several self service laundry rooms that also include irons and ironing boards. $1 to wash and $1-$2 to dry (depending on how heavy the load is).

trip42-We have a mini suite on Baja Deck booked on the Sun for March 2006, but can't tell you about them until after that date, sorry! I can tell you that they are the second largest (mainly balcony size) in the AB category on the Sun though. The first being the Caribe Deck which are about 24 sq. ft. larger.

Thanks Toto, its always fun to dream of the vacation long before it arives, hence the reason this board was invented.

Have you seen the photos that smoothdancer has on her profile? If you get the chance find her home page and look at them, Awsom is the only way to discribe them.:)

trip42-smoothdancer has some great picks alright. It did answer one question I had that I never asked and that was if there was a curtain to section off the sleeping area. I couldn't tell from the Princess site as it looked like only a partial. But I see from smoothdancers pictures that it has a hidden track and it does close. Great News, I was hoping it did.

And here I thought I was the only one that took pictures of the bathroom area. LOL Enquiring minds want to know. Love that bubble tub in the mini suites on the Sun Class ships. :)

Thanks for the heads up on this one, great looking at those pics!

Certainly check out "Live from the Sun" which was started by yours truly on 1/28 and has had many posters re-living their cruise experiences aboard the Sun since then. You'll find all the answers to your questions there.I'll bump it up for you now so it'll be easier to find.

Rest assured, the Sun is in excellent shape for a 10 year old vessel and it's crew is very eager to please.I'm certain you'll have a great time.

Have a fantastic cruise!

We were on the Sun in Feb/March and liked it very much. We saw one or two negative postings about the Sun showing it's age. We thought that it was in excellent condition. Our cabin steward was great. The food was good, moving to very good as the cruise progressed. I think we had newish wait staff-the service was fine. We had a large outside, CC I think. Not sure about the balcony. We saw one, it was very small and looked like it had been cut in to the hull as an afterthougtht. Spent our time by the pool but would have liked the balcony for those early morning coffees and pre dinner glasses of wine. Entertainment...we were not that impressed but I am probably the wrong person to ask. Everyone seems to rave about Princess entertainment but I am not there so it must just be me. Overall, I think it is a great ship. We liked the size.

trip42 & Toto2Kansas,

DH & I just got off the Sun last week (boohoo) after doing the FLL-LA Panama crossing cruise. We were in B409 minisuite and loved it.

Yes, there is a curtain separating the bedroom and sitting/sofabed areas. We had sailed in 1999 on Ocean Princess (now with P&O) in a minisuite and were glad to be able to book one again. The Princess site shows the proper floor plan but the 180 degree scan is incorrect.

The Sun is a wonderful ship with super crew. We had PC dining and loved our waiter and his asst. so much that we arranged to have him every night!

Can't wait to book another Princess cruise.

We got off the Sun on Monday. I'd say the food was good to very good (the chocolate hazelnut souffle was heaven), but the dining room service we experienced was not. The comedian was the only entertainment we went to, and he was very good. We did not play the slots on this cruise. We had an inside cabin, so I can't comment on the balcony cabins.
