New Orleans Rental car question

We will be flying into New Orleans a few days prior to our cruise and have plans to rent a car at the airport. Are there any rental car companies that have a shuttle from their drop off to the cruise port?

I'm thinking it's not likely that a rental car company would shuttle you from the airport rental car location to the port. You can certainly ask, though.

 

I'd suggest checking about renting a car at the airport, and dropping it off at one of the downtown rental car offices. Enterprise, Budget and Hertz all show up on a Google search as having downtown offices. Those offices might be willing to drop you off at the port.

 

Finally, if all else fails, it's a quick, inexpensive, 20 minute cab ride from the airport to the port. Drop everyone at the port early, then one person returns the car and catches a cab back to the port.

 

As a side note: If your hotel is in downtown New Orleans, and you're not planning any trips out of town, you might be able to just skip the rental car. You really have to do the French Quarter on foot, and you can get to the Garden District & the park via streetcar. The tourist areas of New Orleans are all very walk-able.

Then the rental car makes plenty of sense. I'd go with picking up the car at the airport, doing your touring, and returning it day-of-cruise to one of the downtown locations.

wherever you return the car, there are flat rate cab fares for trips like airport to cruise terminals, downtown hotels to cruise terminals and vice versa.

When we were there in 2010, we stayed at the Drury Inn downtown. Parked our car at the hotel (free) took a minivan cab to the cruise terminal. $7.00 per person, plus tip. When we returned, same deal terminal to hotel.

I think the rate from the airport is about $15.00.

Airport-downtown/cruise terminal is about $35 for two. A few bucks for extra people.
