How Is Majesty of the Seas these days?

I was wondering how the Majesty is holding up? She was my first cruising ship and I'd like to see her again, but was curious how she was doing. Would love any tidbits :) I was on her just after the last refurbish in 2008.

She's probably being phased out soon. Sovereign already left the fleet, Monarch is leaving the fleet early next year, so Majesty will probably follow the same fate before too long. We haven't been on her since 2010, but we enjoyed it. I'll hate to see the day when no Royal Caribbean ships sail from Miami.

I've been hearing other people saying that for sometime, but I hope it's not so. She holds a special place in my heart! Did the other ships get refurbs? I know she is still sailing next year, so hopefully I'll get one last ride.

We sailed Majesty last weekend. Great time. Terrific crew.

Nice weekend out of town.

 

Nice old ship. No Oasis. We prefer Liberty, but Coco Cays

is fun in the summer and the Majesty is the only ticket in

town to get there.

 

I guess if you all sailed on her years ago you'd see a change...

obviously, but we enjoyed Majesty (3 trips this year so far).

 

You got me wondering what ship will replace Majesty if they

sell her off too.

I didn't realize Majesty was the only ship to go there. I guess the larger ships just go to Labadee then? Surely they wouldn't end all trips to CocoCay by getting rid of Majesty...?

The Freedom of the Seas visits CocoCay also. I'm not sure about the other ships.

Thanks for the info! We are on the Majesty in September, and are crossing our fingers with hopes to get to Coco Cay (always weather pending). I love the stops the Majesty makes, with such a port intensive itinerary.

We lucked out with Coco Cay weather so far since March..3 for 3.

 

Oh, on a Majesty bridge tour last Sunday we spoke with the Captain

and he said the winter season has many more 'misses' because of

the wind direction then. Here's why.

 

Look at a map and see Majesty anchors to the North of Coco in about

50-60 feet of water. Bottom is a sandy mix, sand/marl/mud etc.

 

Prevailing Summer winds are mostly from S/SE. Under normal

light wind conditions everything is perfect as can be...and a short

tender ride to shore. A south wind would be pushing the ship away

from the island. A safe thing.

 

In Winter the wind pattern changes with more NW/N/NE winds

and their anchorage is then exposed to heavier seas making tender

operations sometimes impossible.

 

Secondly, those winds are pushing the ship toward the island....a

potentially (not usually) dangerous thing if tenders are loading

and the anchor(s) slip(s). Yup, it is not good to be so close to shore

with only 25' under the keel and being slowly pushed into shore

(to the 'lee') with tenders attached.

 

By the way, that situation I just described is the source of the term,

"leeway".

That's REALLY interesting about the winds. Thanks for sharing! Is there a general time when the winds change? I'm thinking of book for March next year.

We did the 4 day trip in March. I have to say for one of the oldest ships I envisioned that it would be a disappointment. It was EXTREMELY clean and staff was great. Food was so-so (my only disappointment of the 4 days). We were told by one of the officers that prior to our departure it spent the entire previous week in dry dock. She said that nearly all of the carpeting was replaced and painting was done in the public areas. The ship is in great condition no matter what you may read. Cabins were in good shape (although tiny). It was a very nice time but and the value was great. We sailed the Liberty two years ago and it wouldn't be fair to compare the ships, however, with that said, I'd give it a try.

Just a wild guess, but I figure Majesty might hang on until the new "Sunshine" class comes out. I figure they take the older, smaller ships (smaller is REALLY relative in this case, as they are still huge) and they send them to Pullmantur or whatever, or sell them outright. My guess is that they hold on to Majesty until Sunshine appears, then they push things down and eject Majesty.

 

Now, will we ever see the day when they get ride of Oasis or Allure? It's not easy to compete with yourself when it comes to size, and that is what RCi does. ;) I figure this is why "Sunshine" will be smaller than Oasis class, as it is real hard to go much larger than what they have right now. Thus, you go larger in between, and push out smaller ships at the bottom to your other cruise lines, or just sell them.
