drdaddy Posted May 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2005 Hi all. I think this may have been covered quite some time ago but I cannot find it in the search. So forgive if a repeat. What is the casino situation on board an Alaska cruise. We will be on the Coral NB from Vancouver and in the Inside Passage. Does the casino stay open while at sea? Understanding that they are closed while in port but I doubt if we will be 3 miles away from shore most of the time. So, what's that scoop? Also, how are the table limits for the Coral? Interested in ANY table games. Love to play Craps and BJ, but can't do above that $5 limit. It is not entertainment above that amount. Also, would love to see 3 card poker. The Zuiderdam (HAL) had a table and it was a $5 table and you could not get anywhere near it after 7 PM until closing! Thanks
mii Posted May 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2005 The casino is open during sailing in Alaska. You are correct in that in port it is closed. I do not know the table limits. Marilyn
rjg41 Posted May 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2005 $5 BJ tables are usually available but may get full in the evening. Yes, casino is open as soon as ship leaves port. Must be a special exemption. Just a word of caution. First, ships mess with the odds on BJ. They hit with dealer soft 17. Some casinos in Las Vegas have been experimenting with 6/5 on a BJ. Don't know if any of the contracted cruise line casino operators are trying this yet. By the way, usng basic strategy, you lose money 5 times faster with 6/5. As for craps, single odds only. $5 is never a problem since craps is not usually a busy table so they have no motivation to increase min.
drdaddy Posted May 10, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted May 10, 2005 Every Vegas casino now does the soft 17 thing. Ah, maybe some of the smaller places like Slots-a-Fun don't just yet. Any table that give 6/5 for BJ, even single deck can keep their game. I know it is only entertainment but I don't want to flush my money that fast. And single odds is also OK. I get timid when I have too much on the table. Hey, I don't win it fast but I also don't lose it fast. That is so curious about the casinos being so close to land. Fine with me. Budget Queen Posted May 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2005 The casino is open most of the sailing time with the exception of being closed in Glacier Bay.
