Were there any problems getting back-were taxi's or busses available

Buses don't run to Rum Point.

 

A taxi there would be about $80 and 45 minutes each way, and there would be no taxis waiting in the area, you'd have to prearrange the return trip.

 

The only feasible ways to get to Rum Point when visiting via cruise ship are rental car or with an excursion that includes a stop there.

Agreed. If you want to go to Rum Point, rent a car, hire a private private driver, or take a tour.

Rum Point is my favorite place in the Cayman Islands. The Rum Point Bar is straight out of the movies for beach bar ambiance. The snorkeling is great. You can take a snorkel tour or bring your own gear. It will be worth the price of a taxi or car rental to get to Rum Point. You'll be away from the big hotels and tourist areas and get to see the best of the Caymans.
