Malta- Can you squeeze in sightseeing between 7 and Hypogeum Tour at 9?

Recommended Posts

We'll be docking in Valletta at 7 and have reservations for the Hypogeum at 9 (so I assume we have to leave Valleta in a taxi at 8:30. Is the old town in Valletta close enough to port (and taxis) so that we can squeeze in a hour or so of walking around/picturing taking?

If you're ok walking around and uphill, I'd probably suggest getting off the ship and walking up into central Valletta and just absorbing the architecture and parks and familiarizing yourselves with the area. I would think you could catch your taxi from the rotary area that also serves as the bus terminal area of the city. I would try to confirm this with someone else as I'm just guessing. But this is where our taxi dropped us off, so I would think you can probably catch one there too. As long as you walk toward that rotary as you "explore", I think you'd be there between 8 and 8:30, which would be good timing to catch you taxi to the Hypogeum. And to me, that would be better than just killing time on the boat or in the pier area until it was time to catch a taxi.

And walking up the hill at 7am will be easier than at 8am. Heat builds quickly as the sun rises above the horizon.

From the bus circle, you can also take a bus to the Hypogeum. Take bus #1, 2 or 3, get off at Paola. There will be one leaving every 5 to 10 minutes. Schedules here.
