Visa for Ukraine?

We, Australians, needed a visa for our Dnipro River cruise in 2008. We flew into Odessa and out of Kiev, arranged our own transport to the ship and had quite a lot of time free to wander in ports.

Passengers on Black Sea cruises visiting Ukraine ports, but originating and terminating elsewhere, may not need visas if they are prepared to stay with the organised cruise bus tours for every moment they are on land in Ukraine. This applies to Baltic Sea cruises visiting St Petersburg.

Because we also needed visas for Russia also, we used an experienced travel agent and paid the fees, but I'm sure it can be done independently.

Cruise Critic is a great place for answers but when it comes to questions likes visas, you should really be asking the Ukrainian embassy or the nearest consulate. They are the only reliable and proper source. Don't rely on hearsay, not when you have invested so much in your vacation already. "But they told me on Cruise Critic" will not get you into the country if you don't have the proper paperwork.

Here is a link to the Ukrainian consulate in Canberra, which also serves New Zealand. It will tell you all you need to know about how to go about getting a visa.

We just got back from a cruise in the Ukraine. If you have any questions, just ask.
