Otterman34 Posted May 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2005 What special clothing do you need for an Alaskan cruise in July?
LARGIN Posted May 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2005 think layer... tee's, sweatshirt, nylon jacket. You never can figure out the weather..
jnc411 Posted May 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2005 I agree with largin, layers. But you will need something warm for your glacier viewing days, I just layer and add a fleece sweatshirt for those days. A wrap of some kind for evenings, if you like to walk the deck in the evening like we do. Enjoy Cori
Andee Posted May 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2005 Layers are absolutely the way to go. Some days we wore shorts and some days we needed fleece. Things I was glad I brought: thin gloves, earband, binoculars, hooded water repellant jacket, small backpack for shore days.
Happy ks Posted May 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2005 All of the above. Don't forget you bathing suit and sandals, it's not always as cold as you think it will be.
caviargal Posted May 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2005 And throw in one pair of shorts just in case it really gets warm. The weather in ALaska is really unpredictable.
mii Posted May 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2005 I agree with the layering but don't forget to pack a umbrella and a pair of gloves. While viewing the glaciers it can get mighty cold out on deck. And something for your ears. Have fun on the cruise. Marilyn
dgard5th Posted May 15, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2005 We did well with fleece-lined gortex rainwear (like Columbia or EMS) where you could zip-out the inner layer. That gives you a lot of flexibility - just the fleece, just the rainjacket, or both. It is very likely you may need the rainjacket, esp. in Ketchikan. Layers are a must! jean s Posted May 15, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 15, 2005 We are going to do the inland trip to Denali and then to Fairbanks after the cruise. Does anyone have suggestions for clothing on this part of the trip?
