bill0021 Posted January 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2013 Very, very close to pulling the trigger on this one. My wife's concern is the weather. Any experience what temperatures are the norm for the crossing?
Granny DI Posted January 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2013 We did a transatlantic RT from NYC to Southampton in late June. We wasted money on a balcony...fog, rain and wind. I would book an ocean view next time. I have no idea what route the Mariner takes from Galveston. I would suspect once you head into the Atlantic that conditions would be similar to the ones we experienced.
smoosh21 Posted January 16, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Very, very close to pulling the trigger on this one. My wife's concern is the weather. Any experience what temperatures are the norm for the crossing? 2 years ago on the Voyager, it was very warm from Galveston, through the Gulf and the first 3 days in the Atlantic. The 2 days before the Azores and 2 days after we went through some bad weather cool and drizzly. Those were jeans days. Once we were back in the Med, it was very warm again. Since we will stay a little more to the south going to Madeira versus Azores, I am guessing that the weather will be as warm if not warmer. RobertoWard Posted January 16, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Hi I will also be on this cruise with a friend, have done the transatlantic out and into Galveston many, many times and most of the time the weather when we cross the southern Atlantic, going into Madeira is mostly southern Atlantic. So it should be good. Look forward to meeting all of you on the crossing. Roberto

Roberto Robert and I are doing well. We are bringing our friend Laura on the cruise with us this year. She has never been to Europe before. We chose to do MTD for this cruise. We did it on the Oasis and the Allure and it worked out well, so we probably won't be seeing you guys at dinner this year.
steve3008 Posted January 25, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Has anyone done a TA on Royal from Galveston before? I am wondering what the crowd would be like? Or maybe it would not matter because it's a TA? I was on Adventure last year TA from San Juan and it was great. I think it might have been around the same time of the month Mariner is leaving and the weather was very good every day except the last full day was rainy. I am hoping to talk my partner into taking Mariner on the 21st! thanks, Steve

RobertoWard Posted February 24, 2013 #24 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Lettyanto: First there is an Enterprise and a Hertz, in Galveston, so I would ck with those two companies. Next, the Casino will be closed but for only about 7 to 10 days, and then they are planning a Grand re-opening. The shops will be closed one at a time as it is being worked on, but all the others will be open. I work every weekend in Galveston and know many of the crew members and this is what they have been told also. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need help, as I said I live not far from the port.
