Enough time in Halifax for Titanic Cemetery

Recommended Posts

We already have a ship tour to Peggy's Cove in the a.m. Has anyone been to Fairview Lawn Cemetery and how far from town? If it's not too far and there is enough time, would we be able to take taxi there for a short time? Also want to walk around town and possibly have lunch. Problem we see is just found out there will be 4 ships in port including ours that day. Afraid we won't have time and should just go to town after a.m. tour.

Thanks for any info.

Without knowing what time you dock and leave and therefore total time in port also how long the ships tour is- I am assuming this is by bus so probably alot of time wasted just jockeying people and parking!!!!

The Fairview Cemetery is approx 20 min drive from port, and yes you can find a taxi, best bet would be to go next door to the Westin Hotel if there are none around the dock. Depending on length of time you want to spend there and assuming you get the taxi to wait fare will be adding up?

Have you considered either renting a car or booking a taxi tour instead of the ships tour? That way you could start as soon as you dock, visit Historic Halifax main sites, Peggy's Cove and have lobster lunch at a nearby pound if interested and then get dropped back either at Citadel or Downtown to then wonder around the boardwalk back to the ship stopping at Maritime Museum, Seaport Market and Pier 21 if interested.

We did this last year with Halifax Cruise Ship Taxi Tours and we had a great time. They will customize tour to suit you at no extra charge.

Whatver you decide with that many people in port that day I would recommend making reservations with one or the other.

Hope you have a great visit and weather cooperates.

Thanks Lulu51. Our ship is in port from 7 am to 4 pm. Our Peggy's Cove tour is at 7:30 for 3 1/2 hrs. so we are finished at 11am. Also our ship docks first, so we should have a head start on other ships. Also we are back in time for walking around, shopping and having lunch. That's why we're not too confident on going to the cemetery too. I did go online to the Halifax Ships Tours but didn't check in detail. Will see if we can do the cemetery as well as Peggy's Cove thru them without using up too much time.

Thanks for the info.

You could do it, but would have to allow a couple hours. Is it worth it to see a group of tombstones? You will have to decide that.

You would save a lot of time by renting your own car or taking a taxi tour. This way you could stop at the cemetery on the way back to downtown Halifax.

There is so much to see and do on the waterfront and in the downtown area that time there will be precious.
