1st cruise this Nov...couple of fashion questions

I am so excited about our first cruise this fall! I'm assuming that the weather in our ports will still be warm, but what about on the ship, our sea days to and from Galveston? Will capris and a shrug type sweater be enough? Will it be warm enough to sun?

 

Also, here's my shopping dilemma....if I wait til closer to the cruise to start gathering a few things, I will be left with heavier fabrics and darker colors...I am trying to lose weight before the cruise so I don't want to get too much now, not knowing what size I'll be in November. Where do yall purchase your cute maxi dresses and swimsuits and cover ups in the off season?

It will be warm enough to sun and swim in the Caribbean....how warm it will be in Galveston...no one can predict this far out!

I"ve cruzed all months..never can tell what it will be!! If it is rainy out in the evening...cooler nights prevail.. I always have a sleeve on my tops/jackets/tunics. and rarely short dress...but days are Capri or short jeans skirt..alll with pockets !!!!!! a must ! . Have rarely taken/worn a winter coat...TA on HAL, in June..we had very cold days. Last year on MAGIC TA...rainy and windy..I take enuff to cover anything the weatherman throws @ me!

Not sure what part of Texas you are from, but I live fairly close to Galveston. It may be cool in the morning but will warm up a lot during the day. SE Texas -- we use A/C all year.

The AC on ships can be cool. Bealls.com should have some of the things you need. I am a snow bird and in the winter in Florida I can still find some warmer weather clothes

Lands End. com might have some things in their sale section in the fall, but they'll be limited in some sizes. Good luck with the weight loss! A cruise is certainly good motivation! Other than the formal nights, you won't need anything more special on a cruise than you would wear at a nice restaurant or a resort.

Good Luck with the weight loss. I would suggest layering your clothes then you can do almost any weather that comes.

A couple of questions: are you losing weight just for the cruise or will you continue afterward? If you're on a long-term plan for weight loss, don't go overboard buying clothes just for the cruise if you'll just be passing through that size. Also, maxis and swimsuit coverups are okay if they are a little big but not okay if they are too small. There are tons of options online for out of season clothing but you may not have the size options you'd like.

 

Are you hot or cold natured? Some who are cold-natured complain about the a/c on the ships. I'm very hot natured and have never gotten cold. It should be plenty warm enough to sun - maybe even on sailing out of Galveston, but it is up to the weather, and you know how that goes.

 

Many who have been cruising for a while have come to the conclusion that it's not necessary to buy "cruise clothes" unless maybe you live in a cold climate and are cruising the tropics. I may buy a new dress for formal night or new shoes (just because I like the shoes - not specifically for a cruise), but I just pack my normal clothes with regards to the weather of where we're going. (though an Alaskan cruise did provide an excuse to get

a North Face fleece :)

[Galveston Cruiser]

We live in Galveston and it will still be warm in November. The only time it has been cold on a cruise was in January when a front went all the way down to Belize.

I wear warm up suits over swimsuit on the ship so I can go anywhere and not have to change for lunch. Sundress or tank top and shorts in ports.

I take less and less each cruise and still have clothes I don't wear.

We are on a 29 day cruise this year and will take one large suitcase because day dress on the ship is very casual. Chico's travelers are great as they don't wrinkle, light weight and can be paired with anything.

We are crusing at the same time out of Tampa on Legend to western carribbean. I have lost 6 of the 10 pounds that I wanted to just cause I think I will feel better. So good luck to you on that.

 

As far as cloths, I understand that the days are good and you can use swinsuit and coverup on deck. Even during the summer i find inside the ship that I sometimes need a sweater or shawl as some areas can tend to be cooler than other areas. I plan on shorts or capris during the day and capris or slacks in the evening. We also like to get up early in the morning get a cup of coffee and go out on deck so I am bringing a light pullover of some type for that. As far as buying, I don't buy much more than maybe a new dress or special outfit for elegant nights. Some folks do the whole gown and tux thing and then some do a mix of long dress and suit for the other half. The later is what we usually do for at least one night. I usually pack way too much and wear less than half of it.
