Athens Piraeus port taxi

Dealing with taxis in Athens is always an adventure because many of the drivers will try very hard to rip you off. If they run the meter from Pireaus to Athens...a normal taxi should cost no more then 15 Euros. But regular taxis cannot carry 6 so you would either need to get lucky and find a van/taxi, hire two taxis, or arrange in advance for pick-up by a large van/taxi. In our trips to Athens we have had to deal with all kinds of taxi rip off attempts. Some of the more popular scams are to simply refuse to use the meter (we have even heard things like, "my meter is broken") and then negotiate a ridiculous fare, have the meter set at the #2 setting which should only be used at night, or take the long way around. We once tried to get a taxi from the Plaka to the Hilton Hotel at about 11pm. The fare should have been about 5-6 Euros but several taxis insisted that we would have to pay 20 Euros. Finally DW and I just laughed at the drivers and walked (it took about 40 min).

You probably cannot do this from the ship, but when you are at the hotel, ask the desk to call you a "radio taxi." A taxi will come pick you up at the time you request and charge you the correct price.

Your ship may also have transportation options for departing passengers. Check when you are onboard.

You can make arrangements ahead of time for Andreas Kambas to pick you up at the cruise terminal and take you to your hotel. He met us at the airport and took us to the hotel, then from the Hotel to the cruise ship another day. he can also do tours. He speaks excellent English, is nice and pleasant and reasonable and honest. Google him..
