1st Time Cruiser Oasis of the Seas Review

Since your post is asking me a question….I will answer it.

First when someone shares a different opinion, that is hardly hijacking a thread. If OP feels the need to reply to everyone who is offering a different viewpoint than theirs, well that is when a ping pong match is usually started…..that is not hijacking…..that is a debate.

I never said the OP opinion was wrong. I strongly suggest you re-read the entire thread. You will then see that the one post that I commented that I “disagreed” with one of her statements, the OP basically replied that my opinion was wrong and hers is a fact. So pehaps, you should direct that question over to the OP.

I have been reading reviews about the Oasis since she sailed as I was just amazed with her design through all the wonderful pictures of her shared on here. With that said, I have noticed that many are quite surprised on how well she accommodates the passenger load from embarkation, throughout the venues and all public spaces....with one exception...the Windjammer. There are countless threads on here indicated such that. Now that I have experienced the Oasis, I agree with the overall majority except not much to say about the Windjammer since I really was not there often enough.

Many areas on the Oasis are far from being insanely crowded. To those who have a cruise booked on her...I'm jealous and to those who don't....you should consider it at least once. It's an unforgettable experience.;)

Are you serious? *sigh*

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fair and balanced (like Fox News) review! We are sailing on the Oasis this January for the first time and are really looking forward to exploring this huge vessel. You have provided us with some great tips. Thanks!

LOVE the fishy picture!! :):)

I should say: I don't know about vertigo. I used them for seasickness. Which I think might be very different things? Anyway, all four of us used them. My husband only for one day. I used them for 3-4. My sister for 4 until she put on a patch. My niece used it now and then.

I hope you have excellent luck with the ginger! It seems like it really works!

Oh, that's fine. They are two different things but the nauseousness isn't, so as long as it helps that, I'm good! Thanks again!

Regent.

They are all inclusive (tips, alcoholic beverages, airfare, day prior hotel, some shore excursions.) I compared a Baltic on them with one on Celebrity & for a suite category, prices were comparable when adding on the extras with Celebrity's costs. Confirm with your TA friend. Age group may be an issue, but with a MED cruise, you won't be on the ship as much as you would in CB. The cruise will be more of a hotel/transportation than a CRUISE cruise. You'll be too tired from exploring all day every day to use many of the ship facilities.

Vertigo aside, of course...which, If I were you, I probably wouldn't try a smaller ship and just go straight for land vacation. Motion sickness is helped by seeing the horizon & an ocean view with private balcony is a quiet spot of your own. It sounds like your motion sickness is more vertigo than motion. I've never had the vertigo, just seasick on really rough seas. Mid ship, lowest balcony recommended for those with seasick tendencies. Just my 2 cents.

Having said all of that...I'm a cruise addict. But, I'd still say with listening to your review...you'd probably be better off with a land tour of the MED. Your TA friend would be the best person to listen to as for recommendations since she knows you best.

Enjoyed your review, BTW! I find it interesting to look at the places people are from who are posting opinions & how they express themselves in type. For example, someone from the Northern states wouldn't necessarily GET me..as a Southern girl. And vice versa. What sounds argumentative to me, really might not be meant to sound like that to the poster. Bless their hearts, we are all just so different!

Hi Kat -

I am a Yankee, living in Dixie :) But I know what you mean. And you can say anything, I have found, if you say "bless their hearts!"

Regent looks amazing at first glance - I'll have to take a deeper look. And thank you for your suggestions!

OP, I just read your review. I can understand the motion sickness experience and how that would deter you from future cruises. I also suffered from car sickness as a kid.

My first "cruise" was actually a one day casino ship cruise from L.A. to Ensenada and back, years ago, and I spent half the time onboard wanting to die, even though the waters were calm and we were sailing as slowly as possible without rowing. But then I discovered Bonine and tried a seven day cruise and haven't stopped cruising, it's my vacation of choice. I'm lucky that Bonine works for me.

Have a great next vacation, whatever you choose!

We are also from Cary, NC and love being close to the beach and mountains.

We will sail on Oasis on Sept. 22;this is our first sail on such alarge ship but we love crusing.

I hope you have a terrific cruise! The whole mountains and beach thing? Don't we all say it - but neither is really all that close.

Thank u for your perspective. Everyone's experience is valid. I had a different impression of the ship but I went during an off peak time.

In regards to the culture issue, I just think that a cruise serves a different purpose. When I do a land vacation I'm looking forward to museums and walking around like a local. When I'm on a cruise I'm looking to get away from it all. In fact I will dedicate myself to ship culture, people watching and listening to the captain speak. For a lot of cruisers the ship is the destination. The ports are an added bonus.
