Poesia balcony overhang concern - but all opinions welcome

I need advice on balcony selection. I'm getting an ulcer over this which is really dumb, but we have never splurged on a balcony before and I want to be sure that we love it and it's worth the $$$.

The only balcony cabins that we (my family and my parents aka grandma & grandpa) can get side by side with a quad has this strange overhang over it. It's the pool deck that is wider than the deck below. I read that the wall between the balconies can be unlatched, making a large balcony that connects the rooms if you know the person in the cabin next to you.

I thought the pros with the overhang would be no worries about rain or sun or wind. But then I started to worry that we'd feel boxed in, never see the sky or sun and lose the purpose to it all - the open airy feeling. Again, I've never had a balcony so I may be way off base one way or another.

A previous person on here posted these pics of the cabin:

Would you like the overhang (like a perfect awning) or do you think it would be horrible or not a big deal either way? We can get cabins a couple doors down with normal balconies but we'd lose that connecting balcony feature.

Thoughts? Thank you in advance!!!!

Being a veteran of numerous cruises with interconnecting balcony cabins (never on MSC though) don't get your hopes up too much that they will be able to open the divider between the balconies.

On Celebrity, Carnival and Royal Caribbean we have had instances (about 25% of the time) where we were not allowed to open the divider between balconies. In some cases it was due to the way the cabin doors were situated (the swinging divider would block one of the cabin doors) and in other cases the cruise line came up with other excuses not to do it. Again, having never been on MSC I don't know if this is going to be a problem, but just thought I would point it out.

Okay good to know about the connecting part not being a guarantee. What are everyone's thoughts on the overhang being a pro or con to the balcony feel?

Roof itself would not bother me to much.Whats on top of your cabin??? is that a pool??? a would not take such a cabin .can be very noisy :(

Personally I would vote against that particular cabin, especially if you have a choice. Generally, on any cruise ship, having cabins directly under the pool / buffet deck is a bad idea. If you are under the pool the crew generally moves the chairs into position early in the morning and cleans up late in the evening. If under the buffet people move their chairs creating excess noise. However, the cruise lines charge premiums for cabins the higher from the water you are as it is less stairs to climb to the pools, offers a better view, etc.

As for the overhang it is purely a personal choice. For me I enjoy having sunlight as much as possible as I like to sit out and read. However, others would appreciate the shade that it provides without sacrificing the sounds and fresh air that a balcony cabin provides.

Any balcony is not going to be open to the sky but have thenfloor ofmthe balcony above over it, unless you are on the top deck. It wont overhang as much as the overhang showing in the picture though.

I've not been on the Poesia but have been on 2 of her identical sisters and the part ions certainly opened on them. The guy cleaning the balconies opened them all as he was moving from one to the other.

I'd go with other people's views though. You don't want to be directly below the pool. Iwas once and got an early morning wake up call every day when theybstarted dragging out the sun loungers and it was a good 1-2 hours before Inwanted to be awake. Likewise if there is a pool party in the evening, the noise for that travelled into the cabin too. Fine if you're atbthe party, might not be so fine for everyone in your party

You are worried about overhangs, what you should worry about is the poor location as others have stated.

I know but I'm stuck under the pool - that's where all the quad cabins left are. It's just a matter of moving down 10 cabins or so.

No specific experience with this ship, but we had a similar set up on the Caribbean Princess. We were on Riviera deck which is one deck below the pool and buffet deck, and also had a similar overhang. Frankly, didn't concern us at all, either issue, and loved how convenient the location was. I do prefer to be on a deck in between other accomodation decks, but I don't get too concerned if it doesn't happen.

If you do have the choice, go further aft, as I've found it's quieter under the restaurant, where the carpet muffles (practically eliminates) sounds of chairs moving, compared to poolside where the chairs there on bare floor.

Thanks everyone! We decided to go down the hall and away from the overhang. We're still under the pool but we snagged two cabins next to each other. Only one is a quad, but the double next to it was open too. Our lucky day!!!!

Just a little FYI as I see you have not yet cruised on MSC. They have the most amazing Gelato at the pool bar for a slight $ but OMG it is good. And, MSC had a very good beer package for bottled beer but it must be purchased 14 days prior to cruise. On board he one they sell is for draft only. Great wine packages too. Wish other cruise-lines had such reasonably priced drinks.

Good choice on the moving. I wouldn't have liked the overhang.
